Jonas Brothers Shelve New Album as Their Reunion Is 'Effectively Over'

    Instagram

Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas are reportedly taking another break from their band as they put on hold their plan for a follow-up album to ‘Happiness Begins’.

    Feb 23, 2021
AceShowbiz – The Jonas Brothers’ reunion is said to be “effectively over.”
The family trio – siblings Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas – reunited in February 2019, almost six years after they split in October 2013, due to a “deep rift” within the band, but coronavirus hit their plans for a follow-up album to comeback record “Happiness Begins” and all three reportedly now feel they have “moved on” from their music as so much time has passed.
“The Jonas Brothers’ reunion is effectively over for now,” a source close to the band told Britain’s The Sun newspaper. “They had an album ready to go and were about to announce it last March but then the pandemic happened and everything was postponed.”
“Since then they’ve all been working on their own projects and they feel like they’ve moved on from that music. There’s been no big falling out this time, but realistically it will be a while before they do music as a trio again.”

The news comes after Nick announced he’ll release a new solo single, “Spaceman”, later this week (beg22Feb21), while Joe was recently cast in upcoming war movie “Devotion”.
In February last year (20), the “Sucker” hitmakers revealed they had been “working hard” on a new album, but coronavirus then hit before they could announce the record.
Nick said at the time, “We have been back in the studio with Ryan Tedder, working hard on the new record, which is going to be announced in the next couple of weeks – title, tracklist, all that.”
A new album was listed for pre-order on the group’s website but it has now been removed, and last year, they shelved plans for a memoir, “Blood”, following a series of delays.

Despite Rebukes, Morgan Wallen Earns a Sixth Week at No. 1

AdvertisementContinue reading the main storySupported byContinue reading the main storyThe ChartsDespite Rebukes, Morgan Wallen Earns a Sixth Week at No. 1The country star’s “Dangerous: The Double Album” continues to perform well on the Billboard chart, three weeks after he was caught on video using a racial slur. With six weeks at the top of the Billboard 200, Morgan Wallen has tied the longest run at No. 1 since Taylor Swift’s “Folklore” last summer.Credit…Charles Sykes/Invision, via Associated PressFeb. 22, 2021, 10:50 a.m. ETFor three weeks now, the music industry has agonized over what to do about Morgan Wallen. One of country’s newest stars, Wallen had been caught on video casually shouting a racial slur to a friend. After the music world banded together last summer, promising to hold itself accountable for racial inequities, there needed to be action.Denunciations poured forth on social media, and Wallen’s record label “suspended” his contract. Radio stations and streaming services quickly scrubbed his songs from playlists. Artists and commentators gathered at roundtables, wrestling over Nashville’s rocky history with race. Wallen apologized. Twice. But the marketplace has apparently been less troubled by Wallen’s transgression, sending his breakthrough release, “Dangerous: The Double Album” to No. 1 once again. It has held the top spot on Billboard’s album chart for six weeks in a row now, the longest run in the peak position since Taylor Swift’s “Folklore” last summer, and the only country album to spend its first six weeks at No. 1 since Garth Brooks’s “The Chase” in 1992.In its sixth week out, “Dangerous” had the equivalent of 93,000 sales in the United States, including 112 million streams and 10,000 copies sold as a full album, according to the tracking service MRC Data, which is owned by Billboard’s parent company. So far, “Dangerous,” which has 33 tracks in its “bonus” version, has logged just short of one billion streams in the United States.“Dangerous” has been aided by minimal competition. This week, the strongest contender against it was “After Hours,” the nearly year-old album by the Weeknd, who played the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 7. Last week, “After Hours” had the equivalent of 42,000 sales — less than half that of “Dangerous” but enough for No. 2 on the chart. Also this week, Lil Durk’s “The Voice” is No. 3; Pop Smoke’s “Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon” is No. 4; and the Memphis rapper Pooh Shiesty’s “Shiesty Season” is No. 5 in its second week out.AdvertisementContinue reading the main story More

Jay-Z Sells Half of Ace of Spades Champagne to LVMH

AdvertisementContinue reading the main storySupported byContinue reading the main storyJay-Z and LVMH, Two of the World’s Biggest Brands, Go Into BusinessLVMH will acquire half of Armand de Brignac, Jay-Z’s Champagne line known as Ace of Spades.Feb. 22, 2021, 6:55 a.m. ETBeyoncé and Jay-Z way back in 2015.Credit…Sam Hodgson for The New York TimesWhen Jay-Z clicked into a video call last week with Philippe Schaus, the chief executive of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s drinks business, the Zoom backgrounds told the story.Jay-Z spoke from a partly covered terrace of his Los Angeles home, wearing a casual sweater, accessorized by the outdoor living room and greenery around him. Mr. Schaus was in his office in Paris, wearing a suit, accessorized by shelves of elaborate drinks bottles behind him.The topic: the news that LVMH would acquire half of Armand de Brignac, Jay-Z’s bubbly brand. (Most people call it Ace of Spades, after its bottle’s branding.)The deal gives Jay-Z the organizational support and distribution power of a global drinks “machine,” as Mr. Schaus called it, while LVMH gets the cool clout and lifestyle marketing savvy of a pace-setting Black cultural leader at a time when the luxury sector’s racism is under particular scrutiny.Neither side would disclose the financial terms of the transaction. But if Jay-Z’s lyrics can be considered appropriate journalistic sourcing (it’s very probable they shouldn’t be), half of Armand de Brignac was valued in 2018 at $250 million. “I’m 50 percent of D’Ussé and it’s debt-free, 100 percent of Ace of Spades, worth half a B,” Jay-Z rapped on “What’s Free,” the Meek Mill track. (D’Ussé is the cognac brand that Jay-Z owns with Bacardi.)They were, however, more than happy to talk about their new relationship.“We were always looking to grow this brand,” said Jay-Z, “and this happened very naturally.”Mr. Schaus, who manages a Champagne portfolio for Moët Hennessy that includes Dom Pérignon and Krug, gushed right back. “In your understanding of the world of tomorrow, we believe you created a new consumer for Champagne,” he said, beaming at Jay-Z through the computer.Jay-Z in the presence of Moët (and Robert De Niro) at a gala in 2016.Credit…Rebecca Smeyne for The New York TimesIt’s not the most obvious time to invest in Champagne, amid a health pandemic that has kept bottle-service dance-club partying to a minimum in a world with little to celebrate. But then, LVMH is not just buying a new drinks brand: It’s buying cultural know-how and entree into markets not traditionally served by some of its brands.“We have to catch up somehow,” said Mr. Schaus on the Zoom call. “So this relationship will inject us with some better understanding of the market of tomorrow.”LVMH first attempted to access “the market of tomorrow” in 2019 when it teamed up with Rihanna to create the Fenty high fashion line — which was also, as it happened, when it first met Jay-Z. (Rihanna is represented by the management arm of Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s entertainment and sports company.) Though operations of Rihanna’s line were suspended less than two weeks ago, the Champagne partnership signals a strengthening of larger ties to the greater Jay-Z universe. The Ace of Spades deal was initially discussed in the summer of 2019, when Jay-Z hosted a lunch at his house for Bernard Arnault, LVMH’s founder and chairman, and Alexandre Arnault. The younger Mr. Arnault is the third of Bernard Arnault’s five children. He is, at 28, an increasingly visible force at LVMH. He became chief executive of Rimowa, the LVMH-owned German luggage brand, in 2017 at only 24; was the family member who accompanied his father when President Trump cut the ribbon on a new Louis Vuitton factory in Texas; and was recently named executive vice president of product and communications at Tiffany, which LVMH acquired in a $15.8 billion deal last year.He and Jay-Z are good friends who speak on the phone once a month or more. “I’ll send him a photo of something going on with me or he’ll send me a photo,” Jay-Z said. “It’s super natural, super chill. I view him as a person of high integrity. Always keeps his word, very punctual. These are some of the qualities I have myself.”Alexandre Arnault at his apartment in Paris in 2018.Credit…Julien Mignot for The New York TimesJay-Z at his office in Los Angeles in 2020.Credit…Renell Medrano for The New York TimesThe investment from LVMH, which has an all-white leadership team, gives Jay-Z an increased presence in an old, elite, European industry.“Just the idea of this partnership is a signal to a more diverse way of looking at things,” Jay-Z said of LVMH.“We have a long way to go,” Mr. Schaus said.Jay-Z’s cultural and business connection to Champagne is longstanding. He had been a fan of Cristal, helping to elevate it to an aspirational brand among hip-hop fans. But then, in 2006, an executive with Cristal’s parent company made comments to The Economist about the rap world’s patronage: “We can’t forbid people from buying it. I’m sure Dom Pérignon or Krug would be delighted to have their business,” he said.Jay-Z called for a boycott of Cristal and, that same year, he bought Armand de Brignac with a partner. He rebranded the product Ace of Spades, redesigned the bottles, and marketed it as a key element of the Jay-Z lifestyle, with a reveal in the “Show Me What You Got” video. He kept the brand mentions alive in 2014’s “We Made It Freestyle,” the year he purchased the remainder of the line.Though Champagne as a business suffered during the pandemic, Jay-Z said the market has recovered from its initial sharp drop-off in revenue and shipments in 2020, and has settled at a deficit of 20 percent. Both businessmen hope the “superluxury” sector may be first to recover, said Mr. Schaus. A bottle of Ace of Spaces can set you back between $300 to $64,999, for a 30-liter Midas bottle.Wealthy people have been affected the least in the current climate, Mr. Schaus said, and “will go back to enjoying and showing their pride in what they are and what they have achieved.”AdvertisementContinue reading the main story More

Gary Barlow Joins Forces With Peter Andre for New Music Project

    Instagram

The Take That frontman is uncovered to have encouraged the ‘Mysterious Girl’ hitmaker to get back in the studio after the two of them did one of the former’s virtual ‘Crooner Sessions’ gigs.

    Feb 22, 2021
AceShowbiz – British pop star Gary Barlow has teamed up with Australian singer Peter Andre for a new project.
The “Mysterious Girl” hitmaker joined the Take That frontman during his online “Crooner Sessions” virtual gigs last year (2020), and Barlow not only encouraged his pal to start working on new material, but also suggested they collaborate in the studio.
Writing in his new! magazine column, the “All Night All Right” singer revealed, “I did a Q&A [question and answer session] on my YouTube channel and was asked what made me decide to get back in the studio and actually stick to it.”
“Randomly, I got the push from two people. One was [his son] Junior telling me to write something cool, current, and fresh.”

“The other was Gary Barlow. Gary and I did one of his ‘Crooner Sessions’ last year in the first lockdown and afterwards I sent him songs I had written and he basically told me to get my bum back in the studio and release some music.”
“So now I’m working on two projects – one album that I plan to release soon, and another separate project with Gary. Watch this space!”
And Peter’s eldest son, 15-year-old Junior, whose mother is the star’s ex-wife and former glamour model Katie Price, has also been joining his dad at work.
He added, “Things are coming together in the studio and I’m working hard to get the album I want.”
“Junior has been in with me at weekends and he’s really enjoying the experience.”

Artist of the Week: Pooh Shiesty

    Facebook

The ‘Back in Blood’ rapper gains momentum with his first commercial mixtape ‘Shiesty Season’ as he breaks into Billboard charts and puts his name on numerous artist-to-watch lists.

    Feb 22, 2021
AceShowbiz – Pooh Shiesty is putting his name on the map with his debut mixtape “Shiesty Season”. The 21-year-old Memphis upstart released his first commercial record and linked with a number of fellow rising hip-hop stars, less than a year after he was taken under Gucci Mane’s wing on 1017 Records.
“You getting Big Shiest on this mixtape – I’m touching on all categories. Expect me getting versatile. It’s lit,” he told Zane Lowe on Apple Music Radio show before dropping the mixtape. He said in another radio interview, “I switched it up a lot. I got songs from every genre. I’m bringing it to y’all.”
The hip-hop star didn’t disappoint as he dropped “Back in Blood”. Featuring Lil Durk, the single is a tribute to Durk’s late labelmate King Von. Shiesty broke into top 20 on Billboard Hot 100 as the track became one of the new favorites, peaking at No. 17 on the chart and climbing up to No. 8 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

He additionally scored two more Hot 100 entries with a follow-up single “Neighbors” which featured Big30 and Durkio’s song “Should’ve Ducked” from his latest studio album “The Voice”. The tracks rose to No. 51 and No. 53 respectively on the U.S. singles chart.
Shiesty’s star shone equally bright on Billboard Hot 200 as his mixtape bowed at No. 4 on the chart. Powered by collaborations with his mentor Gucci Mane, 21 Savage, Tay Keith, Foogiano, Choppa Wop, Lil Hank, and Guwop, the record also reached No. 2 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
His impressive feats prompted Billboard to name him one of the 2021 Artists to Watch in January and crowned him the Hip-Hop and R&B Rookie of the Month in February.
On top of that, the rapper, real name Lontrell Denell Williams Jr., appeared on Spotify’s “Rap Caviar” as one of their 10 Artists to Watch in 2021. He’s also ranked third on Rolling Stone’s “Breakthrough 25”, occupied No. 30 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart, and spent more than 20 weeks atop Pandora’s Trendsetter Chart.

Harry Styles Gets Candid About When He Created His Worst Music

    WENN/Instar

When admitting that he has since learned to take a more laid back approach, the One Direction member claims to have found confidence as solo artist because of fans’ warm welcome.

    Feb 22, 2021
AceShowbiz – Pop star Harry Styles has learned not to try too hard when he’s in the recording studio, because it often results in his “worst music”.
The “Fine Line” hitmaker has learned to take a more laid back approach to creating new material in order to showcase his most authentic self.
He said, “I have always made my worst music when I’m trying the hardest and when it feels a little bit too easy and feels a bit safe and it’s just like, ‘Oh yeah, this is what people want’. I try to write music as a fan of music. I just don’t really know how else to do it, I guess.”
“Ultimately, everyone who works in music are just fans. Like, I’m just a fan of music and get to make some, so I try to make it from that perspective.”

Harry finally felt confidence as a solo artist when he was given a warm welcome by fans at his post-One Direction shows.
Speaking on SiriusXM, he added, “The confidence came after feeling accepted by the crowds. When I went out to do shows on my own, I was amazed people were coming to see me.”
His music career aside, Harry recently made headlines for his relationship with Olivia Wilde. The “Don’t Worry Darling” co-stars first sparked romance rumors when they were filmed attending his manager Jeffrey Azoff’s wedding together over the weekend. In the clip published by Page Six, the pair walked and held hands at the venue which took place at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California.
Prior to dating Harry, Olivia was engaged to comedian Jason Sudeikis, whom she shares two children with, for seven years. As for Harry, the musician was last linked romantically to several names including Camille Rowe, Taylor Swift and British presenter Caroline Flack.
