‘That ’70s Show’ Actor Danny Masterson Charged With Raping 3 Women

The actor Danny Masterson, known for his roles in the sitcoms “That ’70s Show” and “The Ranch,” has been charged with raping three women in the early 2000s, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said on Wednesday.Masterson, 44, is accused of raping a 23-year-old woman whom he had invited to his home in Hollywood Hills some time between October and December of 2003, the district attorney’s office said in a news release. He is also accused of raping a 28-year-old woman that same year as well as a 23-year-old woman in 2001. All of the allegations of rape occurred in the actor’s home, the news release said.Masterson was charged with three counts of rape by force or fear, and faces a maximum sentence of 45 years to life in prison if convicted. The actor played Steven Hyde in “That ’70s Show” between 1998 and 2006 and starred in the Netflix comedy “The Ranch” before he was fired in 2017.In a statement, Masterson’s lawyer, Tom Mesereau, said that the actor is innocent and that Masterson and his wife are in “complete shock” that the “nearly 20-year-old allegations” have resulted in charges.“The people who know Mr. Masterson know his character and know the allegations to be false,” the statement said. The district attorney’s office said that it had declined to file separate sexual assault charges against Masterson in two other cases because, in one instance, there was insufficient evidence and, in another, because of the statute of limitations.Masterson was arrested on Wednesday morning and was later released on statutory bail, his lawyer said. His bail was set at $3.3 million, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Masterson’s arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 18.In 2017, after Netflix fired Masterson from “The Ranch” amid allegations that he had raped four women, the actor responded that “law enforcement investigated these claims more than 15 years ago and determined them to be without merit.” It is unclear whether those four allegations overlap with the ones that resulted in charges, but they all stemmed from the early 2000s.Tony Ortega, a former editor of The Village Voice, reported in 2017 that at least three of the women claimed they were pressured to keep quiet by the Church of Scientology, to which they and Mr. Masterson belonged. The Church of Scientology denied that it had pressured victims. More

Bob Odenkirk Defends Blackface Sketch After Netflix Pulls His Show

    WENN

The former ‘Breaking Bad’ actor insists his comedy is ‘always about the human element, never about making a political point’ in response to controversy surrounding blackface sketch.
    Jun 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Bob Odenkirk and David Cross took to Twitter to respond on Tuesday night, June 16, 2020 after Netflix pulled an episode of their show “W/ Bob & David” over a blackface sketch.
The streaming giant opted to remove the episode, which showed Cross in blackface during an interaction between a police officer and someone at a DUI checkpoint, from their service due to the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement and protests taking place around the world.
Following their decision, both stars had their say on their social media pages, with Cross writing, “Hey all, Netflix is going to pull this sketch from With Bob & David because the ridiculous, foolish character I play puts on ‘black face’ at one point. The point of this was to underscore the absurdity… well, here’s your last chance to figure it out.”
And Bob added on his Twitter page, “We considered every choice we made doing our show, and always aimed to make you laugh and think, and never make an obvious or easy point… that very much includes this sketch. Our comedy is always about the human element, never about making a political point.”
The show is the latest to be removed from streaming services amid the ongoing conversations about racial injustice – with Matt Lucas and David Walliams issuing a public apology over the blackface sketches in their show “Little Britain”, which was also pulled from BBC iPlayer and Netflix.

    Jun 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – One housewife will be visibly absent when “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” returns for a new season. On Tuesday, June 16, Eva Marcille announced that she wouldn’t be returning to upcoming season 13 of the Bravo reality TV show.
Eva, who joined “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” for two seasons, broke the news on “The Rickey Smiley Morning Show”. “I have a six-year-old daughter and two young boys still in diapers. They’re 24-hours a day, and there’s a lot of work to be done,” she shared on the radio show. “So I decided to spend my time and energy focusing on my kids and my community, and not so much reality show business.”
The former “America’s Next Top Model” winner then noted that despite her decision, she wasn’t on a bad term with the other ladies on the show. “I want to be very clear, even though we fought on the show, I love every single one of those black women. They are queens all in their own right. They are stars. And I wish them the most successful season and transformational season 13 that ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’ has ever seen,” she said.
Later, she provided more details in an official statement which read, “I appreciate the bond of friendship that I have made with several of my cast mates and the strong personal relationships I have with numerous executives and producers at the Bravo and Truly Entertainment companies.”
Eva went on saying, “I am thankful for the opportunity I was provided, however, after speaking with my family and representatives, I believe that what I hope to accomplish for the culture and community will be better served by focusing on other opportunities.”
Eva joins Tinsley Mortimer as another Housewife that departed from the franchise. Tinsley previously announced her exit from “The Real Housewives of New York City”. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all my fans and friends who supported me and are happy for my fairy tale ending,” Tinsley explained.
“Without #RHONY, I would never have met my prince charming, Scott,” she added. “Being a Housewife was such a fun experience, and I thank @bravoandy and all the wonderful people at Shed Media and @bravotv. Swipe for a trip down memory lane. I love you all so much!!”

'I Know This Much Is True' Gets Called Out by PETA for Exploiting Monkey

    HBO

The HBO drama series starring Mark Ruffalo has been urged to rethink the use of wild animals by the animal rights organization after it features a primate in two episodes.
    Jun 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – The producers of Mark Ruffalo’s new HBO drama “I Know This Much Is True” have come under fire from animal rights activists for exploiting a monkey.
Officials at PETA have fired off a letter to HBO chiefs urging them to rethink the use of animals after the ape featured in two episodes of the series following the network’s recent work with elephants in “Westworld”, a bear in “Silicon Valley”, a tiger in “Vice Principals”, and a lion in “The Leftovers”.
PETA bosses are calling on the company’s executives to enact a policy against using wild animals.
“Animals aren’t looking for their ’15 minutes of fame’ – in fact, they’re desperate to avoid it,” says PETA Senior Manager of Animals in Film and Television Lauren Thomasson. “HBO knows this much is true, and PETA is calling on the purportedly progressive network to stop exploiting animals who are typically caged and beaten into submission off set, and to use CGI instead.”

PETA points out that primates, such as capuchin monkeys, who are used for film and television are “typically taken away from their mothers prematurely and are frequently denied adequate psychological and social stimulation, proper exercise, and the opportunity to engage in natural behavior”.
“As a result, they often develop neurotic behavior patterns, such as pacing, rocking, swaying, cage-biting, and self-mutilation,” a statement reads. “Many suffer from debilitating loneliness and depression.”
