'National Treasure' TV Series in the Works With 'Much Younger Cast'

    Buena Vista Pictures

Two projects based on the Nicolas Cage-starring franchise are confirmed by the producers to be in development; one for streaming and another for the big screen.
    May 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – A TV series based on Nicolas Cage’s “National Treasure” franchise is in development at Disney+ with a younger cast, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed.
The original movie series starred Cage as Benjamin Franklin Gates, a historian and self-taught cryptologist who hunts for long-lost treasure through clues found in American historical artefacts. The film, directed by Jon Turteltaub, was released in 2004 and spawned a sequel, 2007’s “National Treasure: Book of Secrets”.
Now Bruckheimer has confirmed that both a streaming series and a third film are in the works.
“We’re certainly working on one for streaming and we’re also working on one for the big screen,” Bruckheimer told Collider. “So, hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active.”
The “Top Gun: Maverick” producer explained the new Disney+ series will share “the same concept” as the films, but is designed with “a much younger cast” in mind.
“The television version is in process,” he continued. “We have, I think, a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes.”
The news comes months after Disney and Bruckheimer announced they were moving forward with “National Treasure 3”, with “Bad Boys for Life” screenwriter Chris Bremner attached to pen the script to the highly-anticipated sequel.
He added the “National Treasure 3” is currently being written with “the same cast” as the previous films in mind.
Meanwhile, Cage is set to portray Joe Exotic, the subject of the hit Netflix docuseries “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness”, in an upcoming eight-episode series from Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios.

Jerry Seinfeld Wins Rights to Netflix's 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee'

    Netflix

A judge has ruled in favor of the ‘Seinfeld’ actor after he was sued by writer/director Christian Charles over who came up with the idea for the ‘Comedians in Cars’ show.
    May 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jerry Seinfeld has won a court case over who came up with the idea for his hit Netflix show, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee”.
Judge Alison J. Nathan of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, based in Manhattan, New York, ruled that the 66-year-old comedian was the creator of the show, following claims from writer/director Christian Charles that he’d initially pitched the concept in 2001.
Charles initially filed suit against Seinfeld in 2018, claiming he’d had a working relationship with the famed comic for two decades, but on Wednesday, May 5, 2020 he lost his bid to be named as the brains behind the show.
In his suit, Charles said he’d pitched the show to Seinfeld while they were making their documentary “Comedian” in November 2001, revealing the idea – initially titled “[t=Two Stupid Guys in a Stupid Car Driving to a Stupid Town” – was based on the idea of a pair of friends chatting while driving. Seinfeld wasn’t interested at the time, according to Charles, but followed up on the idea during a 2011 meeting in the Hamptons.
However, according to the star’s legal team Charles didn’t request involvement in the project until Netflix coughed up $750,000 for the rights to each episode in 2017, violating the three-year statute of limitations.
The judge’s ruling noted that Charles had waited too long to sue, saying that since he “was on notice that his ownership claim had been repudiated since at least 2012, his infringement claim is time-barred.”
Seinfeld recently admitted he doubts he will return with new episodes of the show after 11 seasons, noting, “I feel like I may have done that exploration, at this point.”

Season 10 of 'American Horror Story' to Feature Macaulay Culkin and Kathy Bates' 'Crazy' Sex Scene

    WENN

Series creator Ryan Murphy reveals in a new interview that he has done writing the scripts for the new installment of the series, though the production has yet to start due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
    May 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – Details about Macaulay Culkin’s role for his debut appearance in season 10 of “American Horror Story” have found their way out online. In a new interview, series creator Ryan Murphy reveals what fans could expect from the “Home Alone” star’s character when the season arrives.
“I have always loved Macaulay Culkin’s work,” Ryan said to E! News. “I loved everything that he’s done, I love the stuff he did in ‘Home Alone’, I also loved the sort of the older, more recent stuff that he did. And he hasn’t worked in a while.”
Ryan then hinted at “this very, very great insane part.” He went on saying, “And I asked to speak to him on the phone and he said OK.”
“[When] I cast, I never let people read things, usually. I said, ‘OK, here’s the pitch.’ And I told them the character and I told him he has crazy, erotic sex with Kathy Bates and does other things,” he continued. “And he paused and he goes, ‘This sounds like the role I was born to play.’ So, he signed up right then and there.”
Ryan revealed that he had done writing the scripts. However, production has yet to start due to the Coronavirus pandemic. “We’re waiting for the crisis to be over because all those scripts are written and I’m excited for him to play that part,” he shared his excitement.
“I’m excited for him to be in my world because I think…I’m gonna want to do a lot of things with him if he wants to work, because I think he’s fascinating and interesting, and I think he has a soul,” Ryan went on gushing over Macaulay, who was announced back in February as a cast member of the new installment. “There’s both a lightness and a darkness with Macaulay Culkin that I’m attracted to.”
In addition to Kathy, Macaulay will join Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman, Finn Wittrock, Lily Rabe and Adina Porter.

Matt Bomer and 'White Collar' Creator Confirm Plan for Reboot

    USA Network

The ‘White Collar’ main actor and the creator Jeff Eastin confirm discussions to bring back the drama series which originally ended in 2014 after six seasons.
    May 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actor Matt Bomer and his “White Collar” creator Jeff Eastin have teased “a plan” to reboot the hit crime drama for another run.
The stars of the show, which aired for six seasons until 2014, are preparing to reunite for the “Stars In the House” livestreaming series on Thursday night, May 7, 2020, and on the eve of the virtual gathering, Eastin and Bomer took to Twitter to reveal they are actively working to revive the series.
“Had a great convo (sic) with Matt Bomer. We have a plan to bring #WhiteCollar back,” Eastin posted on Wednesday.
Referring to Willie Garson’s character, he added, “So, as Mozzie might say, ‘To quote Steve Harvey, ‘The dream is free. The hustle is sold separately.’ It’s time to hustle.”
Bomer, who led the cast as reformed conman Neal Caffrey, reposted the news on his Twitter page and added a face with a monocle emoji and another with a thumbs up.
He also encouraged fans to check out the online gathering with old castmates Tim DeKay, Hilarie Burton, Garson, and Tiffani Thiessen, among others, seemingly suggesting a formal announcement was imminent.
“Hope you can join us this THURSDAY at 8 PM EST/5 PM PST!” he wrote. “The Cast Of WHITE COLLAR Will Reunite On STARS IN THE HOUSE.”
Fans can check it out here.
Eastin previously teased a reboot of “White Collar” last month, April 2020 when he shared a photo of a fedora worn onscreen by Bomer’s character, and noted, “It’s right here waiting for you. Time to get Neal out of retirement…”
    “Let’s do it!” Bomer replied.

'RHOBH': Denise Richards Dodges Conversation About Threesome

    Bravo

Denise’s eyebrow-raising action seems to have something to do with hookup rumors, which started to spark in late November 2019, involving her and former ‘RHOBH’ star Brandi Glanville.
    May 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” returned with another dramatic episode on Wednesday, May 6. In the new outing, everyone was gathering in Denise Richards’ new backyard for her parties. That was when the ladies talked about whether they had hooked up with a woman.
Garcelle Beauvais confessed she did once, while Erika Jayne admitted to date a couple back then. During the conversation, Denise, who is usually the most sexual among the cast, surprisingly stayed mum. She tried to end the conversation in fear that her daughters would listen to it.
Denise’s eyebrow-raising action seemed to have something to do with hookup rumors involving her and former “RHOBH” star Brandi Glanville. The hookup rumors started when the “RHOBH” cast went on a trip to Rome in late November 2019. The ladies confronted Denise about a possible affair with Brandi, and further fueling the speculations, Denise has not been wearing her wedding ring since the alleged Brandi hookup story broke.
Back to the new episode, Dorit Kemsley later segued that “lesbian” conversation into her issue with Kyle Richards as she shaded Kyle by highlighting how she likes to sleep in beds with Teddi Mellencamp. Obviously, it didn’t take long before the two exchanged words with Kyle confronting her over her Instagram pictures.
At one point, Denise asked Kyle why she was so bothered and the latter claimed it was because she’s the type of person who defends her friends. That prompted Lisa Rinna to chime in, saying that she didn’t always defend her friends, referring to her issue with Kim Richards. Not happy with the attack, Kyle told Lisa she had no right to say anything because she nearly ruined her relationship with Kim over her friendship with Lisa.
Kyle then walked away from the table. She didn’t like that Denise defended Dorit earlier and that was why she slammed Kyle, saying that she looked like a “ragamuffin,” someone who’s usually wearing “ratty” or “dirty clothes.”

    VH1

In a newly released statement, VH1 announces that it has ‘forcibly shut down’ production of upcoming seasons of several spin-off series amid the global pandemic which has claimed many people’s lives.
    May 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – The future of “Love & Hip Hop” franchise is in limbo due to Coronavirus outbreak. In a newly released statement, VH1 announces that it has “forcibly shut down” production of upcoming seasons of several spin-off series amid the global pandemic.
“Due to the 2019-20 coronavirus pandemic, all production on the ‘Love & Hip Hop’ franchise series has been forcibly shut down,” read the statement. “This means that ‘Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood’ season 7, the remaining episodes of ‘Love & Hip Hop: New York’ season 10 and ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta’ season 9 will all be postponed until further notice.”
“This also applies to ‘Love & Hip Hop: Miami’ season 4,” added the statement. “It’s still uncertain when and how production will resume.”

Some “Love & Hip Hop” stars reacted to the news by leaving comments underneath TheShadeRoom’s Instagram post about the notice. “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” cast member AD called the production shutdown a “blessing in disguise.”
“Love & Hip Hop: Miami” star Joseline Hernandez also chimed in, “N they bout to pay BIG MAMA A HUGE BAG no more Mona.” Poking fun at his own situation, Zell Swag wrote, “Do we get unemployment.. asking for a coworker.”
Some other people, meanwhile, didn’t necessarily think it was bad news. “Good, we’re tired of the fake storylines anyway….,” a naysayer stated. Echoing the sentiment, someone added, “Good, whole franchise should’ve been cancelled years ago.” A user straightforwardly asked VH1 to “CANCEL THE ENTIRE SERIES.”
Now that the production is in on hold, someone predicted that “a few of them about to go extra hard on there only fans account.” Well, “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” couple Erica Mena and Safaree Samuels did join the paid subscription adult platform, though Erica denied being broke.
“If y’all could you would. Keep that in mind every time y’all think someone is broke just for adding another just because way of getting coins,” she fired back. Laughing at the speculations, the VH1 personality added, “We so broke So don’t forget to subscribe Y’all !”

The Host of a New Travel Show on How to Keep Wanderlust Alive

Ernest White II grew up in Jacksonville, Fla., dreaming of a job that would propel him around the world. He taught English in Colombia, Brazil and Miami, and worked as a freelance journalist in Berlin, South Africa and the Dominican Republic. Now he’s added “travel TV show host” to his résumé. “Fly Brother With Ernest White II,” which began airing last week on various PBS stations, is an entertaining and educational voyage around the globe, taking viewers to both familiar and less-trammeled places. In a recent interview, Mr. White, who is 42, reveals how his background and view of the world have informed his style and philosophy of travel. His responses have been edited and condensed for clarity.Your show begins during a pandemic. What’s it like to have a captive audience, yet one that can’t really travel?Humans need other humans. They, we, need to travel to each other. That is the mission behind “Fly Brother” — human connection — no matter when or how people connect with each other. People still need to know that connection is possible, is essential, and that’s why this is the right time for this travel series to debut. Many are critical of travel’s impact on destinations and the environment. Do you think we’ll learn any lessons on how to travel after the pandemic? We’re learning so much about ourselves, about the Earth right now. There was already a movement to make sustainable travel simply “travel,” but now that we’re seeing cleaner air and water and the indomitable spirit of the planet starting to bounce back, we definitely have to consider how we engage with our home going forward. I do believe in travel, but I believe more in deep connections and intimate experiences that require slower, more intentional movements. Now is the time for destinations, governments, businesses, societies to get ahead of the tidal wave of mass tourism and establish frameworks for sustainable travel, and it’s the duty of those of us in the media to raise awareness about traveling sustainably.Did you grow up watching travel TV shows? If so, what were your favorites?I didn’t necessarily grow up watching travel shows, but I did enjoy watching “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” and National Geographic specials and other shows about different places and cultures. I remember watching the Pedro Almodóvar film “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” as a kid and being swept up in a language and world that were so different from my own. I also loved going to Epcot as a kid because of the different “countries” you could visit. I was always a geography nerd. What makes “Fly Brother” different from other travel shows? The show’s main focus is on friendship, connection and global community. All travel shows incorporate that, but often through the lens of food or sightseeing or dancing. I think it’s a unique perspective and a great complement to those other shows.“Fly Brother” largely skips popular destinations for places like Addis Ababa and Tajikistan. Does this tell us something about your philosophy of travel? My philosophy absolutely includes a responsibility to give a platform for places and people who desire to be seen and heard. People want to share their culture, their landscapes, the things they love about the places they live, and often, many of these beautiful places are overlooked. I’m a native Floridian — I understand tourist fatigue and overdevelopment — but I also know that, again, humans thrive on connection and most people enjoy hosting guests. In Tajikistan and Central Asia, for example, hospitality is an ancient cultural trait, but they’ve been on the fringes of the Russian, then Soviet, empires for centuries. Why not engage with the people in those places, sustainably, of course? And we’ll be going to Paris and Tokyo, too.You have one eight-episode season in the can. Is there a place you’re still chomping at the bit to get to?I’d love for us to film episodes in Mongolia, in Ghana, in Dublin, in Shetland, in Mexico City, in Natchez, in Haiti, in Singapore, in Tasmania, in West Hollywood. I want us to film everyone, everywhere.Follow New York Times Travel on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
