David Schwimmer Roasted Over Comments of 'All-Black' Version of 'Friends': Heard of 'Living Single'?

    WENN/Warner Bros. Television/Instar

The Ross Geller depictor’s interview sparks conversations on social media and it doesn’t take long before ‘Living Single’ alum Erika Alexander weighs in on the matter in one of her tweets.
    Jan 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – David Schwimmer faces heat over his recent comments about proposing an all-black version of his popular sitcom “Friends”. In a new interview with The Guardian, the actor, who portrayed Ross Geller on the show, shared that he wished for diversity by creating an all-black or all-asian version of “Friends”, but he was met with criticism because he missed one thing.
“I feel that a lot of the problem today in so many areas is that so little is taken in context. You have to look at it from the point of view of what the show was trying to do at the time,” the 53-year-old actor explained. “I’m the first person to say that maybe something was inappropriate or insensitive, but I feel like my barometer was pretty good at that time. I was already really attuned to social issues and issues of equality.”
“Maybe there should be an all-black Friends or an all-Asian Friends,” he said during the interview when asked about the criticism about the show’s all-white cast. “But I was well aware of the lack of diversity and I campaigned for years to have Ross date women of color. One of the first girlfriends I had on the show was an Asian American woman, and later I dated African American women. That was a very conscious push on my part.”
David might have meant well with the suggestion, but his remarks only caused people to roast him because he forgot the existence of “Living Single”. The show, which many dubbed as the “all-black ‘Friends’ “, aired in 1993, a year before the NBC sitcom premiered.
His interview sparked conversations on Twitter and “Living Single” alum Erika Alexander weighed in on the matter. She wrote on Twitter, “Hey @DavidSchwimmer @FriendsTV – r u seriously telling me you’ve never heard of #LivingSingle? We invented the template! Yr welcome bro. 😉 David Schwimmer 2 The Guardian: ‘Maybe there should be an all-black Friends or an all-Asian Friends’.”
During her appearance on “The Breakfast Club”, she previously revealed that the name for “Friends” was taken from the development stage of the show. “It was. The original name for ‘Living Single’ was ‘My Girls; but it didn’t test well so they came up with some other names. ‘Living Single’ and ‘Friends’ were some of the names presented. Obviously, they chose one and the other went to another show, also produced by Warner Bros.”
Fans also quickly chimed in as one said, “David Schwimmer clearly doesn’t know that the ‘all-black’ reboot of Friends that he wants was already done and was called Living Single…which btw inspired Friends.” Another one added, “Apparently, David Schwimmer has no idea he was on a white reboot of ‘Living Single’.”

Tyra Banks Applauses Gabrielle Union for Being 'Vulnerable' Amid 'AGT' Controversy

    WENN/FayesVision

The ‘America’s Next Top Model’ host also praises Gabrielle’s husband Dwyane Wade for supporting her following her controversial firing from the NBC competition show.
    Jan 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tyra Banks has spoken out about the controversial firing of Gabrielle Union from “America’s Got Talent”, a decision which was reportedly made after Gabrielle voiced her concerns about the racism on the show. The former host of the NBC competition show weighed in on the matter, praising Gabrielle for having the courage to come forward with that.
Considering that she only hosted for two seasons, the “America’s Next Top Model” host admitted she wasn’t “really immersed in the culture” of the show to comment on specifics related to Union’s exit. “I almost kind of like dipped my toe in and left, so I’m not really immersed in the culture. Like people ask me about Victoria’s Secret, I can wax poetic about that — was there for 10 years,” she explained in an interview with Yahoo.
The model then applauded the wife of Dwyane Wade for showing her vulnerable side. “What I love about what [Gabrielle] did is she was very vulnerable. I wasnt super close to it, but I saw some of her tweets,” Tyra, who only hosted the show for two season, added. “I thought it was maybe beautiful… how she wasn’t speaking in anger, she’s speaking in pain like, ‘I’m trying to get through this… and I’m crying.’ ”
She continued, “I just thought that was really beautiful. Because a lot of the times in entertainment, you have to put up this front — I’m strong, and I’m this and I was wronged. She was so vulnerable… And I also thought that it was beautiful that her husband really supported her as well.”
Gabrielle was let go from “America’s Got Talent” in December 2019. Rumor has it, it was resulted from her rising concern about the “toxic” work environment, Gabrielle wrote on Twitter, “So many tears, so much gratitude. Just when you feel lost, adrift, alone … you got me up off the ground. Humbled and thankful, forever.”
The actress later talked about workplace inequalities during a female empowerment and inclusivity panel back in mid December. “Don’t be the happy negro that does the bidding of the status quo because you’re afraid. Don’t allow them to call you angry when someone else is called passionate. It’s terrifying. There’s a solid chance you’ll lose your job … I speak from experience,” she shared.

Ellen and Late Night Show Hosts Get Emotional Paying Tribute to Kobe Bryant

    NBC

The likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and Conan O’Brien are overwhelmed with emotions as the talk show hosts remember the recently-deceased NBA hero.
    Jan 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ellen DeGeneres broke down in tears as she paid tribute to her friend Kobe Bryant in an emotional speech filmed for her talk show.
The TV presenter shoots her programme in advance, so videoed her tribute on Monday, January 27, 2020 to air on Tuesday, following the basketball player’s tragic death in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
Struggling to control her emotions as she remembered the sportsman, Ellen said, “Today is Monday, and yesterday was Sunday. It happened to be my birthday and the Grammy Awards. I was nominated, I didn’t win. Not the point. Yesterday was supposed to be a celebratory day, and then we got tragic news about Kobe Bryant, and everything changed in a second. And that’s what I want to talk about.”
“Life is short, and it’s fragile, and we don’t know how many birthdays we have. So just – you don’t have to have a birthday to celebrate, just celebrate life. And if you haven’t told someone you love them, do it now. Do it. Tell people you love them. Call your friends. Text your friends. Hug them. Kiss them. Be nice to people at the DMV. They’re people. Be nice to them.”

Numerous late night talk show hosts also paid tribute to Kobe and his daughter Gianna, who died alongside him in the crash. Opting not to have a live audience for his show in honour of the sporting legend, Jimmy Kimmel instead directly addressed viewers, saying, “Kobe was the last person you could ever imagine something like this happening to. He was so strong and so handsome and smart and energetic. He was a hero.”
    [embedded content]
“And when I say that I don’t mean a hero like real heroes like firefighters or doctors and nurses who actually save lives… but Kobe was a hero in the way Superman was a hero. He was so big it was almost like he was a fictional character. He was a real-life superhero with a costume and everything walking among us.”
    [embedded content]
Finding it hard to hold back tears, Kimmel concluded, “This was a terrible loss for those families, for the Lakers, for Kobe’s teammates, for his fans. There’s no silver lining here. It’s all bad, it’s all sad. He was a bright light, and that’s how I want to remember him.”

Jimmy Fallon and Conan O’Brien also remembered Kobe in heartfelt tributes on their shows.

Jenelle Evans Breaks Silence on Rumors of Her Returning to 'Teen Mom 2'

    Instagram

Later in her new YouTube video, the former ‘Teen Mom 2’ star also talks about speculations that she and her now-estranged husbnd David were spotted looking cozy in Nashville earlier this month.
    Jan 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jenelle Evans has reacted to rumors of her heading back to “Teen Mom 2”. The 28-year-old MTV star addressed the speculations in a new video that she posted to her YouTube page on January 24.
She revealed that there was no confirmation that she would get back on the show. However, she admitted that she’s been in talks with people in connection with something. “I have no idea about ‘Teen Mom’ and I have no idea about my own show, but I know I’ve been in talks with certain people here or there,” Jenelle, who was let go from the show last year, shared.
However, it might not be “Teen Mom”. She continued, “Not saying it’s MTV or who it is but we’ll see if something works out in the future. I don’t know.”
Jenelle was fired from “Teen Mom 2” after her now-estranged husband David Eason made headlines for shooting and killing their French bulldog, Nugget in April 2019. Previously, Jenelle revealed that she was offered to an “open contract.” The insider added, “I contacted our old producer and asked, and he said you guys just have an open contract right now, and that no doors have been closed.”
Later in the video, Jenelle also talked about speculations that she and David were spotted looking cozy in Nashville earlier this month. “In the state of North Carolina, you first have to be separated for a complete year to even file for divorce,” she explained. “In the state of Tennessee, you have to live there for six months to be a resident and you also have to be separated for six months in order to file for divorce. So that’s why I haven’t filed yet.”
    [embedded content]
“I have plans for my future and there’s more business opportunities here, so that’s one of the main reasons why I came here,” she added. “It wasn’t because of another guy; it was to get away, clear my head and do more business opportunities.”

'Doctor Who' Makes History With Jo Martin as the First Black Doctor

    BBC America

Revealed in the Sunday, January 26 episode of the BBC series, Martin’s character is the next incarnation of the titular character and the first black Doctor in the show’s history.
    Jan 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Doctor Who” has made another bold move. A little over two years after casting its first female Time Lord, the long-running BBC series crossed another milestone by bringing in Jo Martin to play Ruth Clayton, the first black incarnation of the titular character in its 57-year history.
The introduction to Martin’s Doctor was done on Sunday, January 26 in the episode titled “Fugitive of the Judoon”. Assuring fans that Martin’s character is not fake, showrunner Chris Chibnall told The Mirror, “The important thing to say is – she is definitively the Doctor. There’s not a sort of parallel universe going on, there’s no tricks.”
“Jo Martin is the Doctor, that’s why we gave her the credit at the end which all new Doctors have the first time you see them. John Hurt got that credit,” the TV writer continued explaining as he referred to the time Hurt made his first appearance as War Doctor, another previously-unseen incarnation, for the show’s 50th anniversary in 2013.
On how Martin’s character fits into the mythology, Chibnall promised, “There will be answers to some of these mysteries this series. But as ever with Doctor Who, answers often reveal new questions. It’s all very deliberate.” He added, “We’re telling an ongoing story and there are plenty of things in Doctor Who that change all the time but I’m very aware of the history and very aware of the continuity.”
Sharing how Martin came to be the show’s newest Time Lord, Chibnall spilled that the “Fleabag” actress was recommended by director Nida Mazoor, but did not know she was auditioning for the part when she was called to read. “We called her in and she read for it – with secret pages that didn’t mention that it was the Doctor,” he recounted.
“But she’s a massive fan of the show and I think she guessed,” the TV writer continued to dish. “I had to ring her up and tell her and she was overwhelmed and thrilled. A lot of her family are fans and she kept that secret brilliantly for so long – nobody knew. We filmed it in the middle of last year.”
During the interview, Chibnall additionally described Martin to be “the best person for the job.” On the reason why, he explained that the “Holby City” actress has “got a brilliant combination of humour and warmth and wit and softness and steel. She’s a really exciting Doctor.”

Tamra Judge Unfollows 'RHOC' Cast Members Because She Doesn't Want to Be Hurt

    Bravo/Tommy Garcia

The 52-year-old reality TV star explained why she unfollowed her former co-stars on the Bravo show when she joined Andy Cohen’s Instagram Live on Monday, January 27.
    Jan 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Following news of her departure from “The Real Housewives of Orange County”, Tamra Judge unfollowed her former co-stars and also the show’s executive producer Andy Cohen on social media. However, she revealed that she had no bad blood with them despite the action.
The 52-year-old explained why she did that when she joined Andy’s Instagram Live on Monday, January 27. “Why did you unfollow everyone, including me?” Andy asked Tamra, who later responded, “I actually did that when I got the news. So I got the news when I was camping. I had no (cell phone) reception.”
“I got a text message a couple hours before I left for my camping trip that I have a production meeting, that we’re going full force, I know you haven’t gotten your contract, so I thought, ‘Ok, I’m good. I’m good right?’ ” she went on explaining.
Tamra then continued saying that she went on her camping trip and ended up driving to a place where she could get reception to check on daughter Sophia Barney. “I drove down the street and I got a text message from production saying, ‘Call me,’ and I was a little bit in shock. And because I knew it was going to be a s**tstorm,” she said.
“I didn’t want to read about it, I didn’t want to see it. I didn’t want to be hurt any more than I already was. So I just unfollowed everybody. It was just like my instinct. Out of sight, out of mind. I don’t have to see it. Now I’m good. I’ve accepted it,” she added. “I have two businesses, I have two houses.”
After Tamra said that “RHOC” made her a “rich b***h,” Andy said, “Don’t cry because it’s over, just smile because it happened.”
Tamra announced her departure on Saturday, January 25, saying, “It’s been a wild ride, and after all these years, I’m looking forward to life away from the cameras. I was offered a chance to come back to the show in a limited role, but would prefer to walk away on my own terms.” It was said that she was walking away from the Bravo reality series, and her decision was prompted by the salary pittance that’s offered to her.

'Bachelor' Recap: Ladies Slam Peter Weber for Inviting Alayah Back to the Show

    ABC/Jason A LaVeris

The pilot admits to the other women that he previously felt pressured into sending Alayah home in the previous episode, so now he decides to get her to return to the show.
    Jan 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The Bachelor” returned with a new episode on Monday, January 27. The new one saw Peter Weber regretting his decision to send Alayah home in the previous episode. That prompted him to try to get her back on the show, much to the other women’s dismay.
The episode kicked off with a one-on-one between Peter and Victoria F. They spent time at an amusement park before going to a Chase Rice concert. That was uncomfortable for Victoria as she used to date Chase. At some point, Victoria pulled Chase aside to talk about the awkward encounter.
She told him that she couldn’t lie to Peter about her past and Chase encouraged her to do what she felt was right and so she did. She freaked out, afraid that Peter wouldn’t change his mind about her after the revelation. However, Peter assured her that would not happen and he even presented her with a rose.
During the group date with Victoria P., Kiarra, Kelly, Deandra, Madison, Lexi, Shiann, Tammy, Sydney, Hannah Ann, Savannah and Mykenna, Alayah made a return to set the record straight about her relationship with Victoria P. She said the former Miss USA contestants took a trip to Vegas together. When Peter confronted Victoria about the claim, and she admitted that was accurate before adding, “My truth is the truth.”
Peter then shared that he previously was felt pressured into sending Alayah home. So he decided to invite her to return to the show and even gave her the group date rose. That didn’t sit well with the ladies, especially Natasha and Deandra who slammed Peter over it during the cocktail party.
“Can I say something really quick? I’m sorry Peter, but I’ve never felt so under-recognized by somebody. And for us… who busted our ass out there on the football field and literally have the physical bruises to show, and then for you to come to the cocktail party and ignore us, half of us, who didn’t get time, and then walk in hand-in-hand with Alayah, it was like the biggest slap in the face. Like, I couldn’t even look at you,” Deandra said.
At the end, Alayah cried as she felt like she was “literally just getting torn to shreds” by the other women.
Also in the episode, Peter had a one-on-one date with Kelsey following the ChampagneGate. During the date, she opened up about how her parents’ divorce affected her. Peter eventually gave her a rose.
