Alex Trebek, the beloved host of game show Jeopardy!, has died aged 80.
A “Jeopardy!” spokesperson told TMZ: “Jeopardy is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends.”
The Canadian-American TV host died on Sunday (November 8) surrounded by friends and family at his home.
Trebek announced back in March 2019 that he was battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
He started chemotherapy immediately after his diagnosis, but had made no plans to retire and continued hosting the game show.
The star heartbreakingly admitted he suffered “massive attacks of great depression that made me wonder if it was really worth fighting on” after suffering from cancer for a year.

However, he said he realised that giving up on life would be a betrayal to his wife, God and other cancer patients.
Alex pointed out that the odds of surviving pancreatic cancer for a second year were just 7 percent, however said he hoped he’d be able to celebrate that milestone too.
Sadly, he took a turn for the worse though.

He announced his tumours had shrunk more than 50 percent in May 2019, but his numbers declined and he began another round of chemotherapy a few months later.
As well as continuing to host the 37th season of Jeopardy!, he also filmed the ‘Greatest of All Time’ tournament on prime-time television earlier this year.
The star was signed on to host Jeopardy! through until 2022.
He joked: “Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host ‘Jeopardy!’ for three more years!”
