After news of Basra’s passing broke tributes were made online by colleagues and friends.

Director Hansal Mehta wrote: “Asif Basra! Can’t be true… This is just very, very sad.”

Actress Maanvi Gagroo said: “This is terrible news. RIP Asif.

“Thank you for all your encouraging words every time we bumped into each other.”

Meanwhile, Black Friday director Anurag Kashyap praised Basra’s down to earth work ethic.

He told Variety: “He was the most unassuming and genteel actor I have worked with.

He also starred in Bollywood’s 2010 number one grossing 2010 film Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai as Shoib’s (Emraan Hashmi) dad.

In 2019 Basra appeared on UK screens thanks to ITV drama series The Good Karma Hospital.

This year he appeared in Amazon Prime show Hostages.

Speaking about Basra’s passing, the series director Sachin Krishn said: “I am stunned by the news.

“I don’t know the full facts. He was such a jovial person on sets.

“In fact, we used to envy his life because he would stay in the hills and come to Mumbai only to shoot. He was not only a fine actor but more importantly, a beautiful person. It feels like a personal loss.”
