Celebrity Gogglebox star Gyles Brandreth told Twitter fans that he had been responsible for his wife Michele’s broken wrist and trip to the accident and emergency room after he’d taken a stumble.
The 72-year-old revealed that he was to blame for his wife’s painful injury after he’d accidentally tripped on a tree root that ultimately led to Michele bounding to the pavement.
At the time of the incident, Gyles had not been paying attention to his footing as he “looked into the air”, totally missing the uneven surface area in front of him.
Making light of the situation, he took to Twitter to share a snap of Michele’s plaster cast that had been covered in festive stickers.

Alongside the image, Gyles penned: “This is the festive plaster cast the ace people at Chelsea & Westminster Accident and Emergency gave my wife when she broke her wrist.
“Looking in the air I tripped on a tree root & toppled onto my wife who hit the pavement! Aaargh!
“She’s on the mend happily and I’m doing all the cooking. Result.”

After the couple had been inundated with a flood of heartfelt well wishes, Gyles took to Twitter for the second time.
This time, he uploaded a photo of Michele, who appeared to be in good spirits as she beamed a huge smile while showing off her broken wrist to camera.
Elevating her plaster cast arm in the picture, she used a cardboard packet of tissues to prop up her injury as she rested on their cream leather sofa at home.

As Michele was unable to type a message, Gyles thanked supporters on his wife’s behalf, he wrote: “Message from Michele: ‘Huge thanks for all your lovely messages – really appreciated.
“‘Here I am resting my arm on a box of tissues while waiting for Gyles to arrive with the next gourmet meal!
“‘Sending sympathy to anyone in similar circs.
“‘Thank you & Merry Christmas to you all!'”
In 2019, Gyles made his debut on series one of Celebrity Gogglebox alongside Sheila Hancock.
Returning to the sofa-bound programme the year after, it was announced that Maureen Lipman would instead join him on the Channel 4 hit.
