Princess Diana’s bridesmaid India Hicks was overjoyed when bosses for The Crown came to her for advice which later led to her daughter landing a part in episode three.
India Hicks, the goddaughter of Prince Charles, played a major role in the wedding of Charles and Diana back in 1981, serving as a bridesmaid for the royal couple.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, Lord Mountbatten’s granddaughter has shared her first memory of the event and how her daughter is now following in her footsteps.
India, 53, vividly remembers the perfume that Diana, Princess of Wales wore on the famous day, a scent named Tea Rose.

“For someone who was so incredibly shy and at that stage quite uncomfortable in front of the cameras that she wore a fragrance that was very, very strong and powerful,” she said.
India revealed that while The Crown is not completely factually accurate, producers did reach out to her family as her mother, Lady Pamela Hicks, who served as a Lady-in-Waiting to the Queen and often travelled across the world with the Monarch.

She gushed: “They reached out to me this time for the royal wedding day because they asked that my daughter, Dominoe, play a tiny, tiny part in this.
“God knows if she’s even she may well be on the cutting room floor, I don’t know. But she has a tiny role playing one of the bridesmaids in one of the rehearsal scenes.
“So I was in touch with the producers around the time when my daughter was being filmed for that.”
India was holidaying in The Bahamas when she received a call from Prince Charles, asking her to be a bridesmaid on the big day.
“It was the press really wanting to go with it and really believing in the fairytale of what was happening and on the day, I have to say that’s something else that’s kind of stuck with me,” she said.

The mum-of-five went on to say that there had not been many scenes filmed for the wedding, including the famous carriage procession but the scenes that had been shot were “visually beautiful”.
“I think they have some very brilliant, very astute historical researchers who have put in many, many hours to make sure that the details are as close to correct as possible. So, again, we’re kind of we have to remind ourselves this is a dramatisation, but it is filmed so beautifully. We can kind of go along with the whole feeling of it,” she explained.
India partnered with disaster relief agency Global Empowerment Mission and provided support on the ground in The Bahamas, where she lives shortly after Hurricane Dorian in August 2019.
The author continues her work for the organisation as well as the Harbour Island Foodbank who provide food for those who lose their jobs following the shut down in The Bahamas.
The Crown season four is available to stream on Netflix, now.
