Netflix’s latest hit drama series follows an orphaned chess prodigy who battles addiction whilst rising through the ranks.
Emma star Anya Taylor-Joy plays the lead in The Queen’s Grambit, brought to the small screen by Scott Frank.
The show has gripped viewers and has quickly gained somewhat of a cult following.
The series is in fact based on a book of the same name by Walter Tevis – which is bad news for fans wanting a second series.
Netflix is yet to confirm a second series, which is hardly surprising as the entire plot is covered in the first drop of episodes.

Tevis reportedly based the book’s chess scenes on his own experience as a class C player, and he relied on help National Master Bruce Pandolfini – who also served as a chess consultant on the new series.
The Netflix series is not the first attempt at bringing the novel to life.
In 1983, a New York Times journalist named Jesse Kornbluth acquired the right for a screenplay and had interest from actors along with directors, Good Housekeeping reported.
Eventually the project was scrapped and the rights were sold to another studio.

Nearly a decade later, Scottish screenwriter Allan Shiach bought the rights and tested the water with directors.
There were also rumours that Heath Ledger was going to be behind a new project as the director, but his untimely death lead to the film being shelved.
And although Tevis drew on his own experiences as a chess player there is no real Beth Harmon.
The author told The Times previously that he created her as a “tribute to brainy women”.
He listed his daughter and his aunt – who had gifted him with his first chess set – among the women who had inspired the character.
