Kate Garraway is reportedly stuck between “grief and hope” as her husband continues to battle coronavirus.
Derek Draper was placed into a medically induced coma ten weeks ago after contracting the virus, and while he has no trace of the disease in his body, he remains in a critical condition.
Kate’s close friend and Closer’s psychological therapist Emma Kenny opened up about the Good Morning Britain ‘s host emotional ordeal and said there’s still a long road ahead in terms of Derek’s recovery.
Speaking to the publication, she wrote: “Derek has been very unwell and in a coma for a long time.

“If he does come round, Kate will have been told by doctors that there will still be a long journey ahead for his full recovery.
“So for her, it’s not just dealing with the feelings of being in limbo and at a loss – she’s all of a sudden home alone with two children and trying to be there for him – but it’s also unique because, even though he is still alive, it’s not in the way she knew.”
Emma added: “It’s really challenging, because she can’t fully grieve and she can’t fully hope – she is stuck somewhere in between.”
Emma’s comments come after Kate opened up about Derek’s health during an emotional interview aired on GMB last Friday.
Since Derek was admitted into hospital in March, the former I’m A Celeb campmate has stepped back from her presenting duties in order to look after their two children, Darcey and William.
Discussing her husband’s ongoing battle, she revealed the bug has “wreaked extraordinary damage on his body and is uncertain if he can recovering from the virus.
Speaking from her garden at her North London home, she said: “He is very very sick.”
“It has affected him from the top of his head to the tips of his toes.”
Discussing the positives, she added: “He is now Covid-free. He’s testing negative for Covid.
“The fight for the virus has now been won, and he’s still here, but it’s wreaked extraordinary damage on his body and we don’t know if he can recover from that. “
