Fleabag’s Andrew Scott could be set to play ex-PM Tony Blair in the final seasons of The Crown.
According to The Sun, the 44-year-old actor has held talks with the creators of the hit drama to play the Labour leader when he first came to power in 1997 at the age of 43.
A TV insider told the Sun: “This role is one of the most anticipated castings on The Crown.
“The final series covers the Prime Minister’s epic clash with the Queen over her response to the death of Diana in 1997.
“So the creators wanted an adaptable actor like Andrew who has proved he can master the charm and intimidating presence that typified Blair.”
Andrew fame catapulted after Sherlock when fans enjoyed him playing the role of arch-nemesis Moriarty which earned him a BAFTA nomination.
He won many fans over with his roles as a Bond villain in Spectre and with his portrayal of the ‘Hot Priest’ in hit comedy Fleabag alongside Phoebe Waller-Bridge, which made him a household name.
Meanwhile, the fifth season of The Crown is set to begin filming this July.
Variety reported that the crew are already making their returns to Elstree Studios ahead of the new cast arriving to shoot their scenes.
Like season 3, the new series will see a whole new cast playing the royals, with Imelda Staunton taking over from Olivia Colman to play Elizabeth II.
Elizabeth Debicki has been cast to play Princess Diana replacing Emma Corrin, while Lesley Manville will portray Princess Margaret previously played by Helena Bonham Carter.
