BBC Breakfast fans fume ‘does anyone bother to check?’ as they spot huge error

Eagle-eyed BBC Breakfast viewers spotted a huge spelling blunder at the start of Tuesday’s show (May 16).

The BBC One morning programme returned with hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent, but things got off to a rocky start in the studio as the awkward spelling error occurred in the very first minute of the broadcast.

And some fans were so unimpressed that they asked if the production team had bothered to check what was being broadcast.

Jon and Sally were introducing the top stories of the day, with one of the headlines being about businessman Javad Marandi, who has donated large amounts of money to the Conservative Party.

Javad’s foreign companies have been at the heart of an international money laundering investigation.

The businessman, who has an OBE for business and philanthropy, has strongly denied wrongdoing and isn’t subject to criminal sanctions.

But when a photo of him appeared on the screen, viewers realised that the text beneath him was incorrect.

It read: “Tory doner revelations.”

The BBC had clearly meant to show the word “donor”, meaning someone who donates money, but they incorrectly spelled it “doner”, a type of kebab meat.

One fan fumed: “@BBCBreakfast is the revelation something to do with Kebabs? Does anyone bother to check anything before putting it on national TV?”

Others couldn’t help laughing at the mistake, with one quipping: “Kebab laundering!”

Another wrote: “@BBCBreakfast Mogg is secretly partial to a Mixed Grill with extra chilli sauce, Dorries goes for lamb doner on chips no salad and Steven Barclay can’t make his mind up. #torydoner #BBCBreakfast.”

Sally has reportedly split from her husband of 13 years

The broadcaster seemed to spot the mistake eventually, because they used the correct spelling underneath the businessman’s image later in the show.

It comes after Sally made her first TV appearance after reportedly splitting from her husband of 13 years, Gavin Hawthorn.

She seemed to confirm the split as she appeared in the studio without her wedding ring.
