Giovanni Pernice appears to have defended his teaching methods on Strictly Come Dancing despite alleged complaints from his former dance partner Amanda Abbington.
Last year, the 33-year-old was caught in a media frenzy when his dance partner Amanda left the show due to “medical reasons” just a month into the 2023 series. She later reportedly accused Giovanni of being difficult during training and failed to mention him when she announced she was leaving.
Over the weekend, the Italian native finally spoke about Amanda following their allegedfeud. On Tuesday’s (March 19) episode of Lorraine, he was asked if he would change his teaching style for the 2024 series but he seemed to swerve the question.

TV host Lorraine asked: “We know Strictly didn’t quite work for you this year. Are you going to change, as I know you are a perfectionist?”
Giovanni replied: “It’s not just about the winning, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. I think it is a shame, as I have said in the past I think Amanda could have gone all the way to the final, great talent.
“You know the idea is to get them to be the best they can be, as I have said before with Amanda. And we were getting good feedback from the judges.”
Anton Du Beke, who was on the ITV show with Giovanni to promote their new travel series, gave his view as a judge on the BBC competition. He added: “It’s really interesting to see this from the perspective of the judge. Sometimes the people who you think straight away will make the final don’t and other’s come out of nowhere so you never know.”
On Saturday, Giovanni faced a new problem when it was said that three of his past celeb partners got together to talk about the tough times they had working with him. It’s been said that Amanda, Ranvir Singh, and Laura Whitmore had a big chat where they ‘compared notes’ on their time with the Italian dancer on the BBC show.
But just after these stories were revealed. the BBC showed they’re support to the Strictly star by sharing news about his new travel show online. As well as this, Giovanni and Anton were also invited onto The One Show sofa on Monday night (March 18) to promote the series in a clear sign of solidarity.
Sherlock Holmes actress Amanda has reportedly appointed a top lawyer Persephone Bridgman Baker to demand rehearsal footage of when she was in rehearsals with Giovanni last year. It’s said she left the show in the wake of a feud with Gio.
