I’m A Celeb’s Tulisa says ‘you fight or you fall’ as she details years of hell

Tulisa Contostavlos has admitted she went through years of hell ahead of I’m A Celebrity.

The N-Dubz legend, 36, is preparing to take on the Australian jungle as she heads into camp for the new series of the ITV reality show. She has already started to make her way into camp, with a daring skydive pushing her and her campmates to the limits in true I’m A Celebrity style.

But ahead of her stint down under, Tulisa bravely opened up about the years of struggles and turmoil she went through after she launched solo career. The Young singer admitted there were tough times, but she is determined to carry on as she takes on her new challenge.

When asked on how she was able to cope with the various challenges she went through, Tulisa revealed she had to keep her chin up and keep going, as there was “no choice”. “You either fight or you fall and so I’ve overcome things that, you know, I didn’t realise I was capable of overcoming,” she beamed.

“Now, looking back at all of it, like doing this experience is going to be a test to see what I’ve learned,” she added. “You know, like, if anything, even though because of everything I’ve gone through, this terrifies me, but actually, because of everything I’ve gone through, it will properly make me better at it.”

She went on to say that thanks to her strength and self-esteem, she would be able to brave the experience. When asked why she thought that, Tulisa hit back, saying: “Because there’s nothing worse in that jungle that, you know, any worse than what happened in 2013.”

In 2013, Tulisa went through a number of controversies as she continued to pursue her solo career after N-Dubz disbanded. After two years of judging on The X Factor, Tulisa opted to leave the show – focusing instead on releasing her debut album, which received mixed reviews.

Things were only compounded when a leaked sex tape between her and then-partner Justin Edwards surfaced online during this time. Then, in June of 2013, Tulisa was arrested by police on suspicion of supplying class A drugs, before being formally charged.

Her trial was set to go ahead in July of 2014, but was eventually thrown out of court due to the judge’s belief that the prosecution, as well as undercover journalist Mazher Mahmood had lied to the court. However, this negatively affected her career, resulting in her stepping back from public life.

In 2020, singer Tulisa revealed she had been diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, which results in the face being temporarily paralysed. Speaking to Love Island star Olivia Attwood on her So Wrong, It’s Right podcast, Tulisa recalled her diagnosis, and revealed she was constantly having work done in order to hide her medical condition.

“For me, it was the trauma of the inflammation that caused it, but no one knows what caused it to blow up,” she explained to the Loose Women star. “So even when I was doing the N-Dubz run, it was at its worst, it felt like my face was on fire,” she revealed.

I’m A Celebrity kicks off on Sunday, November 17 on ITV1 and ITVX.
