ITV viewers have taken a disliking to new gameshow Jeopardy! – branding it “beyond annoying” and predicting it will soon be axed.
The rebooted programme hosted by Stephen Fry returned to UK screens on New Year’s Day (January 1). The quiz show became a staple in the US when it first premiered in 1964.
But it doesn’t seem to be a hit with UK audiences as some have complained that is has a “boring” format and confusing questions. Taking to X formerly known as Twitter on Tuesday (January 2), viewers continued to air their grievances.

One social media user said: “#Jeopardy Bring back Deal or No Deal. It was s**t but not as unwatchable as this.”
Another viewer said: “The person at ITV who scheduled two such boring game shows as Ridiculous and Jeopardy one after the other ought to be sacked!! Come on ITV what are you doing.”
A third penned: “Stop trying to make UK #Jeopardy happen. Its rubbish. Plus why is that font shouting at me?” A fourth said: “Doubt this will get a second series.”
While another fumed: “Dear #ITV1 there is a reason #Jeopardy has never before been picked up in this country. The home of Mastermind Only Connect and The Chase does not need this boring imbecilic format. If it got any slower and dumbed down you may as well show paint drying.”
Some TV viewers also suggested that ITV should bring back Tipping Point, which previously held the 4pm weekday slot. One X user wrote: “Only seen the last couple of mins. Not sure about it. Prefer Tipping Point.”
While another echoed: “Nah sorry it’s a bore. Bring back Tipping Point.”
But despite the backlash, some fans were loving Jeopardy! Offering an opposing view, one spectator said: “Yesterday was no fluke. #Jeopardy is a superb afternoon quiz show and a solid addition to the schedule. And Stephen Fry was born to host this version.”
And another wrote “Really enjoying this. Can’t believe it’s taken so long for a version here.”
The original quizzing show debuted in the US in 1964 on NBC. The programme sees contestants competing to win a cash prize as they choose different categories and build up their winnings.
Although many may be unfamiliar with Jeopardy, it was first broadcast on UK screens in 1983 when it was hosted by Derek Hobson on Channel 4 for one year. The show was later revived by ITV with new presenter Chris Donat. It was then picked up by Sky One in the mid-90s.
