One of the UK’s most well-loved daytime quiz shows has reportedly been shelved, according to its host.
Eggheads has been a stalwart for daytime TV viewers since it first aired back in 2003. The show sees a team of challengers take on the Eggheads, a team of quiz brains from across the UK with specialties in a slew of different subjects.
The show was first brought onto our screens by the BBC when it first aired in 2002. The programme would continue to be aired across the BBC network until Channel 5 snapped it up in 2021.

However, since the last new episode aired in April 2023, viewers have been wondering whether the show had been shelved by the broadcaster. Now, presenter Jeremy Vine has given a huge hint that the show has not been produced, meaning a revival is off the cards.

“I haven’t heard anything about Eggheads for a while now,” he told The Sun. “I think I have done about 1200 shows – but whether we are doing any more I don’t know.”
He added: “We last filmed an episode over a year ago. It may well be we are doing it in 30 years’ time, who knows, but no immediate plans for any more.”
Jeremy was brought in to host the show from 2008, joining forces with previous host Dermot Murnaghan. The pair co-hosted the show, alternating between shows before Jeremy was made the sole permanent host in the programme’s sixteenth season.
Channel 5 released the first season of Eggheads with new episodes in October of 2021. Season two of the show aired February of 2022, with the last episode of the show being broadcast in April 2023.
Eggheads has been deemed as the UK’s most winnable gameshow, according to research. An in-depth study looked at the winning chances of some of the country’s most well loved quiz shows, and concluded that Eggheads was the easiest game show to win, due to several criteria.

The study ranked each show out of 20 based on their cash prize, number of teams or opponents, volume of questions and rounds, as well as skill. In the results of the study, it was revealed that University Challenge was the hardest game show to win, as it offered no cash prize, but instead gives moral victory.
Pointless finished in second place, behind Eggheads according to the study. These were swiftly followed by Danny Dyer’s The Wall, The Chase and Rylan ‘s former ITV show Supermarket Sweep.
