Ray Winstone ‘doesn’t believe death is the end’ as he opens up on reincarnation

Ray Winstone has revealed his spiritual side – saying he believes in reincarnation.

The Hollywood hardman thinks a person’s soul is a collection of their memories that stops and rewinds just like a film. Ray, 67, admitted he has started thinking about death more as he approaches his 70th birthday.

The Sexy Beast actor said: “My idea of the afterlife is that all this information that we’ve collected and we’ve got inside us can’t just end like that, surely? Is that nature? Is that the way it is?”

He went on to add: “I think it’s almost like a film, like a video tape if you like. When it stops it rewinds and it starts again. Maybe that’s what the soul is, maybe the soul is a memory, it ends and it stops and it rewinds and you go through it all again.”

Comparing life to a movie, Ray continued: “Maybe in the new film you take a different chance or you go in a different direction. I don’t know.”

Cockney Ray is famous for his roles in films such as Scum and The Departed. But he has no plans on leaving this life just yet.

The family man told the Films To Be Buried With podcast: “My favourite thing is watching my kids grow, watching my grandchildren grow.”

Recently the actor appeared on ITV’s Lorraine as he proudly discussed giving his daughter Jaime, 38, away. She tied the knot with James Suckling in a lavish ceremony in Sicily last October.

Chatting to Lorraine Kelly on her talk show, Ray detailed that the big day had cost him “a lot of money” but he had so much fun that he wouldn’t change it. And would do it all again in a heartbeat.

The Sweeney star: ‘The crazy thing about the wedding is it costs a lot of money to get married and I’d rather give them the money for like a house or something that lasts.

“But it was worth every penny, it was fantastic. You know what it was actually the most amazing weekend I’ve had. Her friends were fantastic and helped with lots.”

He continued to gush to the Scottish host: “It was just the most enjoyable weekend. For the speeches we said what we fancied and got up when we wanted, we sang, we drank, it was a different type of wedding than the norm. It was very relaxed.”
