Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp dodged death after five-word warning from voice in his head

Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp believes he once dodged death thanks to, erm, a voice inside his head.

Taking a trip down memory lane, the 80s pop heartthrob insists the strange but True incident occurred when he was a kid. Martin, 63, recalled: “I must have been about 12 years old, and I was walking to school. I came out my front door and stopped by a roadside.

“As I stopped, I heard a voice in my head, like somebody talking to me, not a thought, literally a voice, and it said, ‘Go back inside the house’. I didn’t even blink.

“I turned round and started walking back up the pathway, and as I walked back up, a car came down the road and smashed into the two cars I was standing in between.

“That’s a fact. It’s [up to you] whether you believe me saying that about the voice!”.

Unfortunately, that same inner guardian angel didn’t come to the rescue when, years later, the ex-EastEnders fave bumped into his idol David Bowie. To Cut a Long Story Short, a sozzled Martin made a fool of himself in front of the icon at a party.

He cringed: “I thought, I’ve got to go over and shake his hand. But it was the end of the night, so I was a little bit worse for wear.

“As I shook his hand, I started to do the sideways crab. I fell over and landed up against the wall. He just looked down at me and tutted.”
