Star Trek legend William Shatner ‘doesn’t have a friend left’ and will ‘die alone’

Star Trek legend William Shatner has revealed that he doesn’t have one single friend in the whole of the universe.

Speaking about his life now, the 93-year-old actor – who starred as Captain James T Kirk in the original 60s Star Trek series and seven Star Trek movies – said he doesn’t have a single pal.

In an interview with SFX magazine in the latest edition, the legend – who also starred in cop show T.J. Hooker – said he had never had a “real friend”.

He said: “I’ve come to the conclusion that everybody is lonely. When you get older you think ‘My God… all those people I knew that I thought were friends are dead’.

“I’m alone – I’m going to die alone.”

He said that it was “so scary” that most people tried to ignore it, adding: “You ignore it, you fill it [life] with wine, women or song.”

He added: “I think of all the meals I ate alone, and theatre companies when I was alone, I drink an odd beer, but the [other] actors would get drunk and be in a haze the next day.

“I didn’t do that – I was not with the drinking crowd, but I’d wonder ‘what are they doing? They’re drinking and laughing’, but I wasn’t ready to drop that mask of ‘I don’t care’.

“If that’s what friendship is, I don’t want to do that – it’s a waste of my time.”
