Strictly’s Neil Jones says partner snub was secret blessing after being missed off line-up

Strictly Come Dancing star Neil Jones admitted he wasn’t fazed about being missed out of the 2023 line-up.

The professional dancer, 41, confessed that not having a celebrity partner meant he was able to witness the birth of his daughter. Neil welcomed Havana with Love Island star Chyna Mills, 24, in October last year.

In his eight years on the BBC show, Neil has only had two partners; former Arsenal footballer Alex Scott in 2019 and actress Nina Wadia in 2021. He told Mail Online it “doesn’t bother him” when he is missed out of the line-up, explaining he enjoys the show when he gets a chance at Christmas.

The star said: “So I say to them every year when I have a partner or I don’t have a partner. That doesn’t bother me. I would say, do what you need to do, if you find the right partner for me, I’m there for you.”

He continued: “But don’t feel that you have to give me a celeb partner, that’s not a priority. I enjoy it when I get that chance at Christmas. This year everything happened in the right way because if I had a partner, I wouldn’t have been there for the birth of my daughter.

Neil went on: “So I’m always so appreciative towards Strictly for being on this big show and I trust them and respect them.” Neil and Chyna first went public with their romance in August 2022 and announced they were engaged at the same time they confirmed their pregnancy.

The Latin dancer admitting he planned on asking Chyna to marry him before he discovered she was pregnant. He told Hello! Magazine at the time: “I’d already planned to ask Chyna to marry me before we knew she was pregnant.

“Then we found out and I was like: ‘Oh, this is brilliant, everything is coming together’.” In a recent interview, Neil explained that their nuptials are set to take place in 2025 and they hope to have Havana walking down the aisle.

“We’re hoping Havana will be walking and it will be nice that she’s there,” he told Express.co.uk. “But we actually haven’t decided anything like [what time of year] it will be. I’m sure it’d be some time in the off-season.”

He added: “Otherwise it’d be quite stressful! But yeah, we’ve kind of got to sit down still and go through all of it and plan everything that’s going to happen.”
