Who Wants To Be A Millionaire player ‘stitched up’ with brutal Lidl question

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? fans have said a contestant got the raw end of the deal with a “ridiculously difficult” question.

Hopeful Victoria Johnson was one of the latest hopefuls taking the hot seat opposite host Jeremy Clarkson in a bid to win £1million. But things went wrong when she was stumped by a question on Swedish companies.

She lost out after using her 50/50 lifeline – but viewers pointed out that she had first revealed where she was leaning, warning that contestants should “never tell” what they are thinking before going for 50/50, claiming the computer would then always leave that answer.

Victoria was asked: “Which of these companies was not founded in Sweden?” The answers given were H&M, Spotify, Kopparberg and Lidl, and it was clear that she wasn’t quite sure.

She did say she had an “inkling” and when Jeremy asked what that inkling might be, she said it was Spotify. She then opted to use her 50/50 and the computer took away H&M and Kopparberg, leaving Spotify and Lidl.

Victoria went with Spotify, but the right answer was Lidl. She lost £3,000, pocketing only £1,000, but insisted: “No that’s fine. It is what it is!” But some viewers thought she’d had a bit of a tough break.

“Never tell the ‘random computer’ what you think,” one person said on X. Another agreed: “I’d never tell them what I think it might be on @itv Who Wants To Ve A Millionaire? and then go 50/50… they always leave that answer!! Even when it’s wrong!!”

“Producers stitched her up there good n proper,” said someone else. “That’s why you don’t reveal what you think your answer is before a 50/50.” Another joked: “The rigged 50/50 strikes again! Need her to have another chance.”

“That Lidl question was ridiculously difficult to be fair and should have been a £32,000 question,” commented another viewer. “Harder than any question on the last series.”

However, others thought it was pretty “simple”. “THIS WOMAN MUST BE THE ONLY PERSON ON THE PLANET THAT DOESN’T KNOW LIDL IS GERMAN,” one posted on the platform.

Another remarked: “Oh that’s a shame when she had so many lifelines left. I thought everyone knew Lidl was German.”
