Viewers are in for a hilarious new series as Amanda and Alan take on a new challenge as they try to turn a Greek hovel into a lavish home — with hilarious consequences
Amanda Holden and Alan Carr’s latest DIY series has been their toughest yet. The pair jumped at the chance to do another renovation, but when they arrived at the property in Greece, they were shocked by what they saw.
Comic Alan said: “The house is probably the worst one we’ve had to tackle. I don’t even think it was a house!
“When we saw the state of the house at the beginning, my heart genuinely sunk.” Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda added: “It didn’t have stairs inside, it didn’t have windows and there was a message in blood written on the door outside!”
As well as dealing with such a big renovation, they also had to follow strict planning rules. Alan said: “It had to be a certain colour and a certain height. They really care about the surrounding environment.”
Amanda said: “We had to be respectful. When you’ve got a grade two listed building or grade one, you just have to go with it, don’t you? It’s their heritage.
“This was one of those old traditional houses they needed to keep. Their efforts paid off because they managed to make the property look incredible.
Alan added: “The transformation was mind-blowing.” But this is not the first time that the pair have taken on a fixer-upper, as their previous BBC series The Italian Job saw them transform a home in the Tuscan countryside into a completely new building, ready for lavish parties and relaxing stays.
In the last season, the laugh-out-loud pals left audiences howling as they struggled to turn their dilapidated Tuscan home into something much more. However, with the pair carrying out the renovations in aid of the BBC’s Children in Need and Comic Relief initiatives, viewers were won over and the house eventually sold on the market for £200,000 with the profits being split equally.
Since then, their luxurious home in the small Italian village is now being rented out as an Airbnb, with an asking price of £150 per night. Lucky visitors will have access to a gorgeous cinema room, as well as “chic interiors and breath-taking surroundings”, according to the advertisement on the website.
“Perfect for a relaxing getaway or exploring the charm of Tuscany,” the ad continues. “Nestled in the heart of Fornovolasco, this house perfectly combines modern luxury with authentic rustic charm.”
See Alan and Amanda’s latest challenge when the series — Amanda and Alan’s Greek Job — starts on January 2 at 9.35pm on BBC One.
