Emotional Only Fools and Horses icon David Jason to appear ‘one more time’

Fans of the legendary BBC comedy are set to be thrilled after Del Boy actor David Jason revealed he was set to make one final appearance at a convention dedicated to the smash hit

Emotional Only Fools and Horses legend Sir David Jason has agreed to appear “one more time” at a sought-after fan’s convention as he knows how much the event means to show diehards. For 30 years fans of the iconic BBC1 sitcom have gathered at the annual Only Fools and Horses Convention to celebrate their love of the long-running comedy drama written by John Sullivan.

Now lovers of the show have been given a pre-Christmas boost after it was confirmed Sir David, 85, has already signed up to appear at next year’s fan fest in between dates for his sell out spoken word tour. A blurb posted online announcing next year’s event will take place over the weekend of May 9th and 10th with prices yet to be decided.

Organisers at the Only Fools and Horses Appreciation Society wrote: “One of the main reasons David continues to agree to do these conventions is how genuinely fulfilling he finds them. He understands what the show means to people.

“Not just the character, and not just him, but the programme itself and the place it holds in people’s lives. He’s very aware of the emotional connection fans have, and he sees the responsibility that comes with being the figurehead of that.

“He’s said many times how humbling and rewarding he finds it, and as long as people still want to see him, he’s happy to keep doing it while he can.” The post added: “I’ll be honest, sometimes when I sit there and watch people go in to meet him, it hits me too.

“Quite often people are coming on behalf of someone else, a dad, a mum, an uncle, a grandparent, or even a child who isn’t with us anymore, who loved the show. In a strange way, meeting David, the cast and the crew becomes a way of reconnecting with those memories.

“The show has been part of our lives for decades, and you can really feel that nostalgia and emotion in the room. So yes, we’re going again.”

Fans are already gearing up to snap up tickets so next year’s event. Sam Ward, said: “Missed the last two so this is great news, fingers well and truly crossed.”

Craig Morgan added: “Would love Nicolas Lyndhurst to be there as well one day.” While Alan Garland, added: “Fantastic news the highlight of the year.”

Kirsty Parnaby posted a photo of herself alongside Sir David Jason at a previous convention describing the meeting as, “a dream come true”. Earlier this month we revealed Only Fools and Horses fans are snapping up tickets for a real-life repeat of the legendary “Jolly Boys’ Outing.”

The news came more than 35 years after Del Boy — played by Sir David Jason — led pals on a “beano” to Margate in the 1989 Christmas Special of the hit BBC show. And in March we told how Sir David Jason wowed fans at last year’s convention by pulling off a perfect Welsh accent delighted attendees at the Fools and Horses celebration.

Writing on Facebook, diehard fan Donna Marie Hayes said: “I absolutely loved seeing Sir David… especially when he was doing his south Wales accent then doing the north Wales one. He nailed them both.”
