ITV bosses have decided to axe one of the channel’s most beloved reality TV series following a shake up at headquarters which will see one ITV channel rebranded for good
ITV have ‘cancelled’ one of their beloved reality series.
Dinner Date has been on air for 11 years but after the news that ITVBe will be shut down, ITV2 have not picked up the iconic dating show.
ITV have not yet confirmed Dinner Date’s official axe, but the show was absent from a press released issued by the channel. ITVBe is reportedly set to rebrand to ITV Quiz in June.
A source close to production at ITV has reportedly stated: “There is no new series of Dinner Date currently commissioned, but if it did return, it would be on ITV2/ITVX.”
Dinner Date had an 11 series run and a number of celebrity spin-off episodes, one of which included Love Island icon Marcel Somerville. Fans watched as contestants chose their dates for the night based on what their menu offered, rather than by their looks.
The blind date format show took place in the contestant’s houses and resulted in some hilarious ITV moments.
ITV will be closing ITVBe in an effort to focus more on ITVX and ITV2, while fan favourite shows like The Only Way Is Essex and The Real Housewives of Cheshire will find a new home on ITV2.
An insider said: “ITV has seen incredible success and record breaking numbers of viewers on ITV2, so following that success they’ll be shutting ITVBe and moving TOWIE onto ITV2, which will now be the home of reality.”
“ITVBe shuts in June, then the new series of Towie will debut on ITV2 in Autumn.”
Sam and Billie Faiers’ new show was expected to air on ITVBe, but will now also be shown on ITV2. Love Island already airs on ITV2, along with Big Brother and the celebrity version of the reality show.
The recent series of Celebrity Big Brother sees Love Island’s Chris Hughes and American influencer Jojo Siwa get cosy, in scenes that show the pair cuddling and tickling while in bed.
Siwa and Hughes have been joined at the hip, constantly touching and hugging each other while Jojo has a girlfriend back in Los Angeles.
Some fans have highlighted the age gap between the pair, Jojo being 21 and Chris being 32, while other viewers have taken to social media to discuss their intimate friendship. One person said: “Yeah you can be friends but you don’t need to be on top of one another the entire time and literally all over one another. It’s weird and not normal.”
