Pop star Katy Perry is said to be regretting “making a public spectacle” of her recent Blue Origin space flight after being widely mocked and criticised for her actions
Katy Perry is reportedly regretting her antics during and after her flight to space.
The 40-year-old pop sensation hopped aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin NS-31 space rocket in Texas for an out-of-this-world experience on Monday (April 14). She blasted into space with five other women, including CBS presenter Gayle King and Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez.
However, the super-exclusive trip, which lasted around 11 minutes, has been widely criticised for its huge eco-footprint and eye-watering price tag. The trip, presented as an example of female empowerment, has been accused of being out of touch and many have been mocking the emotional reactions of Perry and her fellow crew members.
Perry, for example, presented a daisy to the heavens – a tribute to her daughter – while in the capsule and was seen clutching it while talking to reporters outside the craft. When it landed, the tearful singer kneeled down and kissed the ground.
It’s believed the Roar hitmaker is now having regrets about the way she handled the trip. An insider told Daily Mail: “Katy doesn’t regret going to space. It was life changing. What she does regret is making a public spectacle out of it.”
The source claimed she “never expected this backlash” and is upset by the “uncalled for and upsetting reaction” to the trip. “Despite the accusations she is still an environmentalist”, they added.
Yet the pop star has been slammed with hefty criticism. Model Emily Ratajkowski branded Perry’s trip “glutenous” and “planet destroying” in a heated rant on social media.
The timing of her stunt sparked outrage too, just as NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have touched down after a gruelling nine-month stretch in space.
A source spilled to Mail Online that Perry is now having second thoughts about “kissing the ground” post-flight, as well as regretting her “close-up camera moments” inside the shuttle – where she was seen holding up a daisy to the lens, plugging the playlist for her pending tour, and crooning the lines of What a Wonderful World while floating in microgravity.
The Firework singer had told reporters she felt “super connected to love”. She explained “It’s about a collective energy in there. It’s about us. It’s about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging. It’s about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it. This is all for the benefit of Earth.”, reports the Mirror.
Perry, who boasts 13 Grammy nods since 2009, intended to take the daisy into orbit as an adorable nod to her four year old girl Daisy Dove Bloom, her child with hubby-to-be Orlando Bloom.
The chart-topping megastar has yet to address the flurry of criticism her Blue Origin jaunt stirred up, either in interviews or on social media platforms. With five UK number-one hits to her name – one as a featured act – the songstress’s most recent smash hit was her contribution to Feels back in 2017.
On that Calvin Harris track, Perry and two other artists guest-starred, and the tune’s video sees Perry alongside her fellow stars chilling on a remote island.
