Cheryl set to return to the stage as Mighty Hoopla's headline act after two-year hiatus

Singer Cheryl is probably getting butterflies this evening as she prepares to take to the stage again following a long break from performing.

The Geordie pop princess, 38, last took to the stage in 2019, performing at Manchester Pride alongside Ariana Grande.

Now, the Let You songstress is set to make a triumphant return to the music industry in less than 24 hours, headlining London’s Mighty Hoopla Festival on Saturday, September 4, to an audience of around 25,000 music lovers.

Ahead of her performance, the former Girls Aloud star treated her millions of fans to two new tracks, setting social media alight as fans shared their joy.

While they may have just bee remixes of her debut solo single, Fight For This Love and a fan favourite, Sexy Den A Mutha, this marked her first release since 2019, with her single Let You that charted at number 57.

Those with tickets for Mighty Hoopla had been awaiting the announcement of the headline act for some time, with bosses confirming that Cheryl would be closing the show.

In a statement, they said: “We are thrilled that this year’s Hoopla will be closed by one of the millennium’s most iconic pop stars.

“Having risen to fame in one of biggest girl groups of the 21st century, Cheryl has since gone on to release five number-one singles in the UK – the first British female solo artist to achieve this feat.”

They continued: “Revellers can expect to hear smash hits ‘Fight for This Love’, ‘Call My Name’ and ‘Crazy Stupid Love’ in a pop-tastic set that’s sure to blow your military hats off.”

Cheryl has been preparing for her hotly anticipated comeback for some time, reportedly enduring a nine-hour rehearsal session on Tuesday.

Teasing fans, she made a rare social media post as she posed with her dancers as rehearsals got into full swing.

Looking delighted alongside her team of dancers, the mother-of-one slipped into a tie-dye tracksuit paired with a pair of Yeezy trainers, by friend Kim Kardashian West’s ex-husband, Kanye West.

Unable to contain her excitement, Cheryl captioned her post: “Hoopla…you ready?!”

While she may be making a landmark return to the stage, with another performance at Birmingham Pride later this month, it appears that Cheryl has been busy, recording her own radio show for BBC Sounds titled You, Me & R&B.

During the show, she will reflect on the past four decades of her life and her love for the music genre as well as her love for artists such as Beyoncé and TLC.

Tomorrow, Cheryl is set to be reunited with X Factor star Alexandra Burke, who won the ITV talent show in 2008, the first year Cheryl appeared as a judge.

Alexandra successfully made it through to the live shows, with Cheryl as her mentor, before going on to win the show, securing a recording contract worth £1 million with Syco.

She expanded: “I tell peoples stories and the one I know most is about me, it’s like hitting a certain low and turning it all around.”
