Bride-to-be Cindy Thompson is finally set to marry the man she met on Channel 4’s First Dates after two failed marriage attempts and the tragic death of her mother.
The couple were due to tie the knot in May 2020 but their nuptials were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
They postponed the wedding until November before facing yet another cancellation.
The loved-up pair will finally tie the knot in Cheshire, close to where the couple have settled, on Sunday, September 19.
Cindy, from Skipton, fell in love with her fiancé Elan Cohen after an introduction on the dating show in 2017, where Cindy revealed her mum Angela was battling a glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain tumour.
Elan was able to meet Cindy’s parents on Boxing Day and hit it off with the pair immediately.
Cindy says she is “so glad” Elan and Angela were able to meet.
Before she died in June 2018, Angela’s last words to Elan were “don’t let me down”.
And Elan kept his promise asking Cindy’s dad for permission to marry her.
The 31-year-old specially modified Angela’s engagement ring for Cindy and plan to have a rose gold and khaki themed wedding.
The lovebirds were dubbed #Teamkhaki after both turning up to the restaurant in the same-coloured outfits.
Cindy will also tuck a rose from her mum’s wedding corsage in 1989 into her bridal bouquet.
The patient couple hope it will be third time lucky, and are excited to celebrate with their families and “draw a line in the sand” after a difficult few years.
Cindy, 31, told The Mirror: “I am thrilled that Elan and I are getting married at last.
“We will miss Mum so much but it will feel like she’s at my side.”
She added she’s grateful her mum got to meet Elan, who she describes as “the love of my life”.
Cindy, who is an ambassador for Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity, recently said: “It gave [Mum] great comfort knowing that I had met my soul mate.”
They’re also arranging beautiful tributes to Angela in the ceremony, with the celebrant from her funeral officiating the wedding.
“It means everything to me to have that link and Erica will pay a tribute to my mum at the beginning of the ceremony,” said Cindy.
Cindy added: “She’s told me how honoured she is to be with us at the most painful time of our lives and now sharing the happiest time of our life.
“We can’t wait to bring our two families together as we move forward with our lives.”
