The Chase viewers floored as contestant gets 'easy' picnic question wrong on ITV show

The Chase fans were left baffled after one player answered a question wrong that left presenter Bradley Walsh in stitches.

Contestant Paul, who wore a bright yellow polo neck top, joined four other contestants in a bid to win a cash prize by beating Chaser Anne Hegerty.

Bradley introduced the hopefuls and soon it was Paul’s turn to step up to the podium.

Before his cash builder round, the host quizzed Paul on his life and hobbies.

He told the host that he works as a DJ and does “a lot of the cheesy party nights in York,” alongside presenting for local radio in York on the weekends.

Bradley asked him how long he had been in his profession and Paul told him that he had been hosting for a decade.

When asked what he would spend the prize money on, the contestant said that he wanted to use the money towards his wedding but “wasn’t allowed” to DJ there.

He had a promising start, after correctly answering “wedding” when asked where flower girls scatter their petals and “girl” when asked what word follows “uptown” and “mysterious” in two number one hit singles.

Paul’s sights then started to go downhill after he answered a few questions incorrectly, then came the damning moment.

Bradley asked him which popular lunchbox item was named after an earl and Paul answered with apple.

The host burst out laughing as the round came to a close as Paul said: “Worth a guess.”

“If his name was Adam, you would have cracked it,” joked Bradley before informing the player the correct answer is “sandwich”.

Fans took to Twitter to express their outrage at his mistake and one sarcastically remarked: “Ah yes, the Earl of Apple.”

Another annoyed viewer said: “Apple, for f**** sake.”

He finished with £6,000 and went up against Anne in the head to head round.

She made him a low offer of minus £9,000 and a high offer of £53,000, a staggering amount which caused Bradley to gasp.

His teammates urged him to stick with the winnings so that he could “get back to the table”.

Paul said that he would get “non stop calls” during his radio show if he took the minus offer, so settled for the £6,000.

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 6pm
