Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has made a shock “appearance” at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, who won more than £10million in the publicised defamation case against Amber Heard, kicked off the star-studded show.
Johnny, 59, was not in attendance in person but appeared in an astronaut suit as he transformed into the ceremony’s famous Moon Person.

MTV’s The Moon Person is a staple of the award ceremony and has been the official award mascot since the show’s first edition in 1984.
Watched by millions of viewers across the globe, show hosts LL Cool J, Jack Harlow and Nicki Minaj opened the spectacle by inducing Johnny.
As the camera panned to the astronaut, Johnny said in the pre-recorded video: “Hey, you know what? I needed the work.
“I just want you guys to know that I’m available for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, weddings, wakes; any old thing you need.”
Johnny shared the video of his appearance as the Moon Person on Instagram to his 27.5 million followers with the caption: “Guess who? #VMAs.”

He then added: “Hey VMAs, let’s get back to the f*****g music, shall we?”
Fans took straight to social media to comment on his virtual appearance for the first time since his legal battle with ex-Amber in June, with one person tweeting: “That’s amazing! Good to see you, Johnny,” followed by a red love heart emoji.
A second person wrote: “JOHNNY YOU’RE SO COOL”, while a third added: “THE BEST OF THE BEST.”
The 38th edition of the awards show took place on Sunday (August 28) from the Prudential Center in New Jersey, USA.
Top contenders looking to win gongs at this year’s celebration include Lizzo, Harry Styles and Taylor Swift.
It comes a few months after Johnny and Amber’s highly publicised six-week long defamation trial.
A jury ruled in favour of Johnny in the Virginia court case, following weeks of testimony from both parties, friends of the pair, expert witnesses and even supermodel Kate Moss.
Hewas awarded compensatory damages of $10million (£8m) and a further $5m (£4m) in punitive damages.
