Amy Winehouse star swigs vodka on the streets in tragic scenes from biopic

New snaps from the set of the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic shows actress Marisa Abela swigging from a bottle of booze while acting as the late singer.

Marisa Abela, 26, plays Amy in biopic Back to Black, and could be seen in character boozing on the streets of London at night.

The scenes were shot in Camden, north London, where Amy lived before her untimely death in 2011 aged 27.

The actress looked unrecognisable as the late songstress, walking through Camden in a downbeat manner and drinking from a bottle of vodka.

Marisa’s Amy was sporting Amy’s famous long raven locks and wore an animal print top, striped joggers and a pair of slipper-like shoes.

The actress was also accessorised like the singer as she was sporting Amy’s signature giant hooped earrings.

Maria was snapped looking disheveled and taking a stroll in the middle of the road, at one point looking down at the floor before taking another swig.

The film is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and written by Matt Greenhalgh, and also stars Skins actor Jack O’Connell as Amy’s husband Blake Fielder-Civil.

Eddie Marsan plays Amy’s dad Mitch Winehouse, Juliet Cowan plays mum Janis and Lesley Manville plays Amy’s grandmother Cynthia.

Amy’s dad recently opened up about the biopic and his thoughts on leading actress Marisa in the role of his daughter.

When asked about the filmmaker’s choice of actress to play Amy, Mitch told the Mail on Sunday: “When Marisa started, I said to the producer, ‘But she can’t sing.’

“But since having lessons she’s a lot better.”

Amy’s mum Janis has hit out at the new biopic, saying it has resurfaced painful memories of Mitch’s affair. The pair are now divorced.

Janis, 67, also said Back to Black portrays her as a “doormat” and that she was “horrified” by the project.

“I’m shown as a feeble, tired woman, slouching on the couch,” she said.

“When Amy was growing up, I was a hard-working, outgoing single mother studying for two university degrees.”

Marisa previously starred in the steamy drama Industry.
