Emmerdale's teen parents now – co-star marriage, famous families and career U-turn

Recently on Emmerdale, teen parent Amelia Spencer (Daisy Campbell) was pleased when Samson Dingle (Sam Hall) was taking more of an interest in their baby girl, Esther.

But her happiness quickly turned to devastation when she discovered her boyfriend Noah Dingle (Jack Downham) was being blackmailed by Samson, and he willingly paid him off using the inheritance he promised was for Esther.

This isn’t the first time the soap has tackled a teenage parent storyline, with several of Emmerdale’s most iconic characters giving birth in their teens.

While Emmerdale fans recognise Natalie Ann Jamieson as Amy Wyatt, it was Chelsea Halfpenny who originated the role back in 2010.

Amy has been part of several major storylines since arriving in the village, including giving birth at the age of 17 after sleeping with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).

Chelsea, 31, has forged a diverse career in the performing arts and has also found huge success as a singer and theatre performer.

Chelsea starred as Jenna in the West End hit, Waitress

After leaving the soap in 2013, the actress went on to portray Sarah in short film Lilium and appeared as Alicia Munroe in BBC’s Casualty from 2015 to 2019.

Chelsea began her theatre career playing different roles in the 2014 West Yorkshire Playhouse production of Maxine Peake’s Beryl.

She went on to appear in the West End theatre production of 9 to 5: The Musical, where she played the role of Judy.

In January 2022, Chelsea took over from X Factor’s Lucie Jones as Jenna on the UK and Ireland tour of West End hit Waitress.

The former soap star isn’t the only famous face in her family as she is the daughter of Newcastle DJ Paula Halfpenny and the niece of actress Jill Halfpenny, who has starred in Coronation Street, EastEnders and Waterloo Road.

In June 2021, Chelsea announced her engagement to actor James Baxter, who starred alongside David Jason in Only Fools and Horses.

Soap royalty Emma Atkins joined the cast of Emmerdale in 2000 and has been causing carnage ever since.

Prior to her arrival in the Dales, it was revealed Charity had a brief fling with her second cousin, Cain Dingle, when she was 13 and later gave birth to their daughter, Debbie.

After five years on the soap, Emma left the show in 2005 to pursue other roles.

The 47-year-old went on to appear in episodes of Dalziel and Pacoe, Mayo, I’m With Stupid, New Street Law and Casualty.

She also starred in a number of theatre productions, including a stint on the West End and an open-air run of A Midsummer Nights Dream.

Emma couldn’t stay away for long however, and returned to the role of Charity in 2009 after a four-year break.

Unlike Charity’s turbulent love life, Emma is happily settled with her long-term partner, Tom, and the pair welcomed a son named Albert in 2015.

The actress kept her pregnancy a secret from the public until she gave birth, later revealing their bundle of joy arrived just before her 40th birthday.

Emma and Tom, who keep their lives extremely private, also have a dog named Ringo.

As well as acting, Emma is also an incredibly talented photographer and her Instagram is littered with stunning pictures she has captured.

Charley Webb starred as Debbie Dingle for nearly two decades before departing the ITV soap in 2021.

At the age of 15, Debbie gave birth to her first child after a brief relationship with Andy Sugden.

In February 2023, the 35-year-old actress landed her first major TV role since her departure from the Dales when she appeared in an episode of BBC drama, Better.

Charley met Matthew Wolfenden on the set of Emmerdale back in 2006 and the David Metcalfe actor popped the question two years later.

In 2013, the TV couple announced they had called it quits after six years together.

However it took no more than two years for the pair to reunite and they tied the knot in a secret castle wedding back in 2018.

Charley and Matthew share three children; Buster, 12, Bowie, seven, and Ace, three.

The doting mum often shares glimpses of her sons on Instagram and previously revealed she loves “the chaos of lots of crazy kids”.

Charley is the younger sister of Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas who is best known for his role as Warren Fox on the Channel 4 soap.

In 1996 at just 12 years old, Kelvin Fletcher first hit screens when he joined the cast of Emmerdale as Andy Sugden.

When his character was 18, he became a father for the first time when Debbie gave birth to their daughter, Sarah.

After a whopping 20-year stint, Kelvin called time on the Dales and departed the soap in 2016.

In 2019, Kelvin replaced Jamie Laing on Strictly Come Dancing after the Made In Chelsea star sustained a foot injury at the launch.

Despite being a last-minute entry, Kelvin proved he deserved to be there as he ended up winning the competition alongside Oti Mabuse.

The 39-year-old married his childhood sweetheart Liz Marsland in 2015 and the couple welcomed their first child, Marnie, in 2016.

The actor turned to farming when their family moved from Oldham to rural bliss in the Peak District after buying a 120-acre 18th-century farm.

The family’s farming journey was captured for a six-part BBC series, Kelvin’s Big Farming Adventure.

Lucy Pargeter has played Chas Dingle since 2002.

While it was believed Chas had her son, Aaron Dingle, at some point in her 20s, it was confirmed years later that this was not the case.

Chas was 41 when she discovered she was pregnant again in 2019 and with Aaron being 27, it means she was just 14 when she gave birth.

Lucy was a member of the girl band Paperdolls

Before her Emmerdale fame, Lucy was a member of the girl band Paperdolls who toured as a support act for Boyzone in the ’90s.

Lucy also had a string of acting successes prior to landing the role that made her a household name.

The star appeared in Soldier Soldier, Dalziel and Pascoe, while others may remember her as Helen Raven in TV soap Crossroads.

In June 2019, Lucy won the Best Actress award at The British Soap Awards and was also nominated for Best Female Dramatic Performance.

That same year, Lucy and long-term partner Rudi Coleano announced they had split after 12 years together.

During their relationship, the couple welcomed daughter Lola, 15, and four-year-old twins Betsy and Missy.

After the birth of her twins, Lucy spoke to OK! Magazine and revealed that she conceived all of her children through IVF.

Lucy told the publication: “Having IVF was hard but we feel so lucky the girls have come along. I think it’s important to be honest about everything to do with how they got here.”
