Cinema-goers screamed so loud at new Stephen King film last minute edits had to be made

Audiences watching Stephen King’s upcoming film The Boogeyman screamed so loudly that changes had to be made to the final cut of the film.

The Boogeyman, starring Sophie Thatcher and Chris Messina, follows high school student Sadie Harper and her little sister, who are reeling from the recent death of their mum.

Meanwhile their dad Will, a therapist, is so devastated by his own pain that he can’t help his own daughters – and when one of his patients turns up at their house begging for help, he lets them in.

But unbeknownst to the family, what they’ve actually ushered into their home is a terrifying entity that feeds on suffering.

And the flick is reportedly so terrifying that some final changes had to be made.

Director Rob Savage confessed to Empire Magazine: “The first time you see the creature, the audience screamed so loud, and then immediately started talking with their neighbours and chattering, that they completely missed the next lines.

“So we had to recut it and build in 45 seconds of padding, just so they didn’t miss any vital information.”

Savage confessed he is a “huge jump-scare guy”, and loves it when a scare “lands”.

He said: “That’s the most gratifying part, when you see that play with an audience and you can feel them taking the bait, and then you feel the jump land.”

Even author Stephen King jumped a few times watching the film – after he notoriously hated The Shining’s big screen adaptation – and even sent Savage an email a day later confessing he was still thinking about the film.

The Boogeyman was originally published as a short story back in 1973, later immortalised in his collection Night Shift in 1978.

Meanwhile, fans watching the trailer for the new flick are just as spooked as the initial reviewers – with one writing: “Man I paid to watch John Wick and not a f***ing trailer of The Boogeyman, I screamed so bad at the jump scare!”

Another echoed: “Saw the trailer for Rob Savage’s film #Boogeyman which from that alone already looks better and scarier than the last film I saw with the same name!”
