AI finally cracks whether Jack would have fit on Titanic door – with wild twist

AI has theorised that Jack would have been able to fit on the door alongside Rose at the end of the 1997 movie Titanic – but the pair would likely not have survived..

Popular AI service ChatGPT said: “While it might have been physically possible for both Jack and Rose to fit on the door, the real question is whether the door could have remained buoyant and stable enough to keep them both out of the freezing water.”

So, it seems like the age-old debate may have finally been settled. ChatGPT went on to say that real-world physics suggest that placing a lifejacket underneath the door and tying it on the top side, similar to the experiment popularised by the TV programme Mythbusters, may have made their survival “feasible,” but “it would have been a precarious situation at best”.

ChatGPT noted that the ‘“popular question” is “often debated for its blend of cinematic drama and real-world physics” before the AI broke down the different factors to consider, including “the size of the door, buoyancy and the physics of flotation”.

On the size of the door, ChatGPT responded: “In the film, the door appears to be a large wooden panel, possibly from a piece of furniture or a partition. It’s not explicitly stated how big the door is, but it seems large enough to support Rose comfortably.”

Regarding buoyancy and flotation, ChatGPT noted that the door “would need to displace enough water to support the combined weight of Jack and Rose,” which might not have been possible.

The AI continued: “Some fans and scientists have conducted experiments to test this theory. For example, in 2012, the TV show MythBusters tackled this question. They found that if Jack and Rose had both been on the door, it would have submerged significantly, making it unstable. However, they also demonstrated that if they had tied Rose’s life jacket underneath the door, it could have supported both of them with enough buoyancy.”

ChatGPT factored in the high possibility of hypothermia and the “shock of the water,” which would have impacted their survival “significantly, regardless of whether they both fit on the door” as their “ability to think clearly and act effectively would have been greatly diminished”.
