Michael Barrymore warned Celebrity Big Brother star over ‘behaviour’ in house

Chantelle Houghton says Michael Barrymore gave her a “lecture” over her “behaviour” in the CBB house.

The Celebrity Big Brother winner, 41, shot to fame on the iconic programme back in 2006. At the time, she was just 21 and the only person in the house who wasn’t actually a celebrity.

During her stint, Chantelle, who was a model at the time, had to persuade all her other famous housemates that she was in a girlband. If successful, she would be allowed to remain in the house.

The reality TV star didn’t just obtain her place on the programme but went on to win it too. While Chantelle told us that she didn’t ever feel out of place on the show as the only ever non-celebrity among some seriously famous folk, there had been one person who’d given her a bit of a “lecture” and “treated her differently” after realising she wasn’t famous.

Speaking to Daily Star, the TV personality told us: “When Michael Barrymore found out that I wasn’t a celebrity, he did treat me differently. You know ‘if you want to be a celebrity,’ and ‘I know this game’.”

She added: “It was almost like he felt as if he had some power over me because he was a celebrity and I hadn’t been. But I just felt like, we’re all just human beings and I felt really comfortable being among the other celebrities, even though I wasn’t one. I loved every minute of it.”

Chantelle didn’t just win over the hearts of the nation during her time on the show, she also caught the eye of Samuel Dylan Murray Preston, who is better known as Preston, from the Ordinary Boys band.

They continued their romance beyond the Big Brother house and even said “I do” in a swanky ceremony. But 18 months later they sadly parted ways.

It was quite a different story for Michael during his Big Brother stint. At the time, he was attempting to “clear his name” after his TV career came to a crashing end in 2001 following a house party at his home that ended in death.

However, in more recent times when speaking with Daily Star, Michael has insisted that he’s had nothing but support from fans since. He said: “Whenever people speak to me, they ask when I’ll be back on TV. And online, I get messages from people who are genuinely lovely.”

The TV star went on to add: “I was in people’s front rooms on the TV for years so they feel like they know me. I get 30,000 comments a week.

“I try to reply to as many as I can, but I can’t get through them all. It proves that whatever state you get into, it’s worth hanging on.”
