Bobby Brazier addresses EastEnders exit as Freddie Slater returns to BBC soap

Bobby Brazier discussed his future on EastEnders; and it’s good news for fans.

The 20-year-old actor is returning to Walford as Freddie Slater in upcoming scenes after taking a break from the BBC soap to take part in Strictly as well as the show’s UK tour. He’s returning with Big Mo Harris (Laila Morse), who was last seen in in 2022.

He discussed his future as Freddie with Daily Star’s Sam Huntley at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday (May 11). He suggested Freddie wasn’t going anywhere when asked how long he can see himself on the soap.

Bobby replied: “I don’t know. I know for the time being, I’m enjoying being there and I’m definitely benefitting a lot from being there.

“I learn so much from being on set with everybody there. Especially my Slater family. I’m young and I’m inexperienced and I’ve got a lot of learning to do, so I definitely don’t take it for granted.”

Bobby also revealed that he’d love Freddie to get a steamy romance storyline – with none other than Sex Education star Emma Mackey, who plays Maeve Whiley on the Netflix hit.

He said: “I’d say he goes through a crazy type of love affair with someone special. Asked who he’d pick, he added: “I would pick the actress who plays Maeve Whiley in Sex Eduction [Emma Mackey]. She’s a great actress…”

He then burst out laughing after suggesting he was her celeb crush, adding: “Oh God, no!”.

Mo has since made only brief appearances on the BBC soap, having originally departed in 2021 to join fiancé Fat Elvis on a cruise. Speaking of her comeback, she said: “I’m delighted to be coming home to Walford to bring Mo back to life.

“EastEnders holds such a special place in my heart, and I can’t wait to be reunited with my on screen family, who are like my family, as well as old and new faces.”

EastEnders’ executive producer Chris Clenshaw added: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome back Laila Morse to the role of Mo Harris. Although her time away from the Square has been short-lived, the Slater family has endured a huge amount of drama since she last appeared on screen and Mo’s return will be no different. We’re delighted to welcome Laila back permanently as she is thrust into the heart of the drama alongside great-grandson Freddie.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
