Davina McCall has been taken to hospital to undergo brain surgery.
The Masked Singer judge, 57, has undergone a crucial operation in order to remove a 14mm benign brain tumour called a colloid cyst. The beloved presenter said she discovered the rare tumour, which is non-cancerous, a few months back when she had a health scan.
Davina asked fans to “pray” for her while discussing her op in a video update posted on Friday morning (November 15) with her boyfriend Michael Douglas, who will be taking over her social media while she recovers from the surgery. In the clip Davina admitted the tumour initially caused her to ‘bury her head in the sand’ but now she’s in “good spirits”.
She said: “A few months ago, I did a menopause talk for a company and they offered me a health scan in return, which I thought I was gonna ace, but it turned out I had a benign brain tumour called a colloid cyst which is very rare. Three in a million. So I slightly put my head in the sand.
“I saw quite a few neurosurgeons, I got lots of opinions and I realised that I have to get it taken out. It’s big for the space. It fills the space. It’s 14mm wide and it needs to come out, because if it grows, it would be bad. So I’m having it removed via a craniotomy.”
Pointing to the top of her head, she continued: “They go through the top of my head here and through the two halves of my brain to the middle, and get the cyst, take it out, empty it, take it out and Bob’s your uncle.”
Asking fans to send their support, she went on: “So say a prayer for me. I am in good spirits.” She then ushered Michael on camera, saying he’s ‘got her back’. Michael joked he offered to do the surgery himself, causing Davina to burst out laughing, and her assured fans she was in very good hands at the hospital.
Davina admitted it had been “up and down” and that they’d “been through a lot” but she’s doing okay. Michael said Davina was in “great shape” but will be “off grid” until she’s well enough.
In the caption of the clip, he wrote: “Hey everyone. Michael here. @davinamccall will be “off grid” for a bit while she recovers from this brain operation. She is in great shape and in very good hands.
“I’ll I do the odd update from her account here for anyone interested. I’m sure she’ll read all the comments when she’s able to so feel free to send love [heart emoji] . The support of people is amazingly powerful. Have a great day everyone. Michael xxx”
