Claudia Winkleman tears up in emotional introduction to Strictly final

Claudia Winkleman appeared to be emotional during the live final of Strictly Come Dancing.

The 48-year-old television star thanked the Strictly team for putting the BBC show together amid the coronavirus pandemic while following government guidelines.

A moved Claudia introduced the show and said: “Now earlier this year we didn’t know if Strictly could even happen, and tonight our audience is made up of the brilliant team that got us here.”

She seemed to become choked up as she said: “Thank you so much.”

“Thank you, team. Thank you all. If ever people needed cheering up, it’s now”, added presenter Tess Daly.

Broadcaster Scott Bryan tweeted the clip and remarked: “Claudia Winkleman (clearly emotional):

“A real moment.”

A fan tweeted: “Honestly #Strictly is such a light in the 2020 darkness. Loving Claudia’s ‘it’s been a terrible day we need some sparkles’ vibe.”

“Was Claudia a bit emotional there?”, added a fourth.

Tonight marked the last episode of Strictly Come Dancing 2020.

The final consisted of Maisie Smith and Gorka Marquez, Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse, HRVY and Janette Manrara, and Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer.

The 55-year-old comedian said in his Strictly Diary column for The Telegraph: “The long day’s training must have taken it out of me, and the result was, as I started to rise, stylishly, not domestically, my legs just stopped working.

“I froze in mid-air, and slowly toppled over onto one side.

“It looked like I’d been hit by a tranquilliser dart, in order to be put on a flatbed truck and moved to a different part of the game reserve.”

Luckily Bill felt better for the live show, and he impressed the judges and viewers with his final dances.
