EastEnders fans gobsmacked as Lee Carter returns unexpectedly to 'save' dad Mick

EastEnders fans were stunned to see Lee Carter make an unexpected return on New Year’s Eve, appearing in the cafe in a shocking comeback.

The son of Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Lee hasn’t been seen in Walford since January 2020, when he left after witnessing his mum’s battle with alcoholism.

Played by Danny Hatchard, Lee appeared in the cafe and talked about Mick and Linda’s decision to separate, urging them to reconsider.

Lee was concerned for his dad’s mental health, as Mick continues to battle with feelings of anxiety while trying to face up to his childhood abuse.

In 2016, Lee was at the centre of a devastating mental health storyline and considered taking his own life at the time, only to be saved from jumping off a roof.

In later scenes, after seeking help and talking to people, Lee survived the dark period and has come out the other end.

When he witnessed the decline in Mick’s mental health on Thursday’s episode, Lee urged his dad to seek help, realising his father was battling depression.

Watching from home, viewers were shocked to see Lee return, unaware he had plans to make it home to Walford.

Many hoped Lee would help his dad to battle his demons and ease his anxiety, praying a recovery storyline was on the horizon.

“Ugh how I’ve missed Lee please I need Nancy back as well,” added another.

And a fourth exclaimed: “I want Lee to help his dad get better and save him #EastEnders.”
