This week marks the nine-year anniversary of the viral song, Friday, which Rebecca Black released when she was 13 years old.
The American YouTuber was thrust into the limelight when the poptastic banger hit the internet, and while the song was largely criticised for its seemingly uninventive lyrics, the teen star went onto bag numerous TV appearances including a cameo appearance in Katy Perry’s Last Friday Night music video.
Shedding her squeaky clean image and long raven tresses, the singer uploaded a sultry selfie to Twitter along with a heartfelt message about the backlash she faced during her teenage years.
One of the biggest glow-ups in the one-hit wonder sphere, the star showed off her killer curves in a skin-tight denim dress co-ordinated with a pair of eye-catching red boots.

With her questionable teenage fashion choices a thing of the past, Rebecca oozed sex appeal as she wowed with a bang-on-trend bob, a blunt fringe and vibrant red lipstick.
Posting the picture alongside a screengrab of herself from the Friday music video, the starlet revealed she battled with image issues over the years, and
“Nine years ago today a music video for a song called ‘Friday’ was uploaded to the internet,” she wrote on Twitter.

“Above all things, I just wish I could go back and talk to my 13-year-old self, who was terribly ashamed of herself and afraid of the world.”
The track was widely panned for its lyrics, which featured the drab lines like “Kickin’ in the front seat / Sittin’ in the back seat / Gotta make my mind up / Which seat can I take?”
And with the backlash mounting, Rebecca admitted the constant waves of criticism got to her.

“To my 15-year-old self who felt like she had nobody to talk to about the depression she faced. To my 17-year-old self who would get to school only to get food thrown at her and her friends.
“To my 19-year-old self who had almost every producer/songwriter tell me that they’d never work with me. Hell, to myself a few days ago who felt disgusting when she looked in the mirror! I’m trying to remind myself more and more that every day is a new opportunity to shift your reality and life your spirit.”
Over the years, Rebecca has made a big effort to move away from her Friday song, and has released maturer solo material, including a 2017 EP, and three songs in 2019.
