Gordon the Gopher branded trolls who mocked Phillip Schofield’s coming out on telly as a “sad set of w******”.
The puppet, who appeared alongside Schofield in CBBC’s The Broom Cupboard and Going Live, had declared that he was very proud of his former co-star.
Gordon’s official Twitter account – which Schofield follows – was blitzed by trolls mocking the presenter.
One produced a video captioned: “Breaking – Gordon the Gopher has just released a statement about Philip Schofield #BreakingNews.’’
The footage featured the cuddly gopher squeaking unintelligibly.
Fans were shocked when the puppet’s Twitter account replied: “Translation: Proud of him so stop taking the p*** you sad set of w******”

One posted a photo of them together at their height of their success as a double act in the 80s suggesting Schofield wanted Gordon to perform a sex act.
Gordon replied: “Oh f*** off Dave!’’ But fans were delighted by the fightback.
One wrote: “Nicely put Gordon.’’
Another said: “Don’t listen to them Gordon. Don’t give them your attention. Now stop with the bad language.’’
Schofield collapsed in tears as he discussed his revelation with co-host Holly Willoughby on Friday’s This Morning.
