I'm A Celeb Emily Atack says she turned to booze as teen after parents divorced

Emily Atack has told of how she turned to booze as a teen following her parents divorce.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star, who is a comedian and actress, says it went downhill for her after her dad Keith split from her fellow comedian and writer mum, Kate Robbins.

The blonde beauty, who rose to fame on The Inbetweeners, told of how the trauma of the divorce affected her so much that she left home and moved in with her older sister, Martha.

During a chat with the Sunday Times magazine, Emily recalled how her childhood came “crashing down”.

She told the publication: “My idyllic childhood came crashing down dramatically when Mum and Dad divorced. I didn’t talk to Dad for months and was angry with both of them.

“I pulled away from Mum, started hanging out with lads and smoking and drinking.

“I stopped listening and did what I wanted, and by the time I was 14 I was seeing this much older lad. That’s when the school bullying started.”

The star continued by saying that because her dad had left, she “latched on” to a bad boy.

She said: “Dad had left, so I latched on to this boy. He was really awful to me and these girls started bullying me because I was seeing him.

“They pushed me around, stuck pictures around the village of me with my phone number written on and basically terrorised me for two years.

“Mum and Dad took me out of school as I used to come home in floods of tears every night.”

It comes after Emily admitted that she’s found coronavirus lockdown hard as a single woman as the global pandemic has made her release that she ‘lives to go out and flirt’.

Speaking on Alison Hammond’s brand new podcast My Life in TV, the This Morning star asked Emily how her love life is going.

Emily replied: “It’s always up and down.

“It’s complicated. Lockdown is proving to be very difficult for single people.

“It’s made me realise what I live for. I live to go out and flirt and go on dates.

“As a single woman, it’s what we wanna do and we can’t do that right now. It’s difficult.”
