Michael Barrymore bloodstained pool snaps show chilling scene of Stuart Lubbock death

Photos have emerged of Michael Barrymore’s swimming pool ahead of Channel 4’s documentary Barrymore: The Body in the Pool, set to air on Thursday evening.

The veteran presenter’s career came to a crashing halt when Stuart Lubbock, a 31-year-old meat factory supervisor, was found dead in the swimming pool in Barrymore’s Essex home in March 2001, following a party at the premises.

In pictures – set to be shown on the 90-minute programme – depicts the aftermath of the bash with empty glasses strewn across the kitchen surface.

Meanwhile, the outdoor pool, lined with three sun loungers, and a jacuzzi at one end soon turned into a crime scene following Lubbock’s untimely death.

In one gruesome shot, a towel, tossed to the side of the pool, can be seen covered in splotches of blood.

There’s also traces of blood seen on the patio tiles – the blood was found to belong to Stuart Lubbock.

The Channel 4 documentary is set to take a closer look at Stuart Lubbock’s death and forensically pieces together the events of March 31 2001, according to Essex Police.

Barrymore, now 67, and two other men – his ex-lover Jonathan Kenney and dustman Justin Merritt – were arrested and later released without charge, and police say the three have not been “completely eliminated” from inquiries.

Five others who were at the party that night – Merritt’s younger sister Kylie, chef James Futers, and locals Simon Shaw, Claire Jones, then 17, and Kelly Campbell – have also not been eliminated, according to police, “who say that one or more of the eight at the party was responsible for Stuart’s death”.

Lubbock had been attending a party at the property with eight other people after he met Barrymore at the Millennium night club in Harlow.

According to Essex Police, a post-mortem examination found Stuart had “suffered horrific anal injuries which experts believe were the result of a serious sexual assault that happened prior to Stuart’s death.

“In the aftermath of the discovery of Stuart’s body some individuals left the property while others, who hadn’t been at the party, arrived and key items of possible forensic interest also disappeared from the house.”
