Olivia Newton-John delivers inspiring message to fans as she battles cancer

Olivia Newton-John has delivered an inspiring message to fans as she continues to battle stage-four breast cancer.

The iconic Grease actress said she wanted to speak out to provide hope after what has been a difficult year for many people around the world.

In the video she posted to Instagram, she said: “I just want to wish you all the happiest and healthiest holiday season. We’ll get through this. This too will pass.”

She added: “I hope that 2021 brings us new things and better news, and just keep your spirits up and think positive thoughts.”

The 72-year-old shared news of her latest cancer diagnosis in November 2018, reports The Mirror.

The Australian star was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 and had been given the all-clear after undergoing chemotherapy and a mastectomy.

The cancer returned two decades later.

In 2013, following a car accident, the actress found out that she had cancer for a second time with doctors almost missing the tumour after attributing the pain to bruising.

Olivia insisted on additional testing which later turned out to confirm the bump was the recurrence of her cancer.

In 2018, the Grease actress revealed she had been told she had cancer for a third time, and it had progressed to stage 4 and spread to her back with a tumour being found at the base of her spine.

Speaking earlier this year, Olivia revealed she was using medical cannabis and natural remedies as well as conventional medicines during her fight with the disease.

She took the time to pay tribute to her Grease co-star John Travolta’s late wife Kelly Preston, after her death with breast cancer this year.

Kelly, 57, died in July at her family home in Florida in November after she battled breast cancer for two years in secret.

Olivia shared kind words about Kelly, whom she called a “wonderful, beautiful spirit.”

She said: “It was obviously [hard]. Kelly was a wonderful, beautiful spirit inside and out.”

Olivia added the tragedy inspired her to continue her work on finding a cure with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation, which is researching holistic therapies for those diagnosed with cancer.

“It was incredibly sad strengthened my resolve and foundation, even more now,” she said during an appearance on Loose Women.

“I’ve lost a few friends in past year more determined to see a world beat cancer.”
