Sir David Jason is one of the UK’s most beloved celebrities, but the veteran actor refuses to let it go to his head.
Opening up on Thursday’s Lorraine, the Only Fools And Horses star, 80, slammed celebs who get carried away with their celebrity status.
When host Lorraine Kelly asked him about his attitude to the showbiz industry, Sir David explained he’s always aware he is part of a team.
“You rely so much on everybody around you,” he said, referring to the number of famous productions he has taken part in.
He went on: “What that means is that you are a part of a team and part of a journey together to make a programme.
“There are some people, especially in our business, that get a little touch of fame and it seems to affect their brain.”
The A Touch of Frost star said some celebs can feel “elevated” once they become household names, acting as though they are better than their colleagues.
He admitted: “That annoys me intensely.”
Driving the point, home, Sir David finished by saying: “They forget that without the team they wouldn’t be on television.”
Lorraine was left nodding in agreement, making it clear she had encountered such celebs in her own longstanding career on television.
Sir David, who is releasing his new autobiography A Del Of A Life in time for Christmas, was a huge hit with viewers, who rushed to their keyboards to praise his warmth on the show.
“What a man. Absolute legend #lorraine,” said one fan.
“‘No one has a bad word to say about you’ they had better not. Sir David is a legend #lorraine,” penned a second.
And a third chimed: “Ohh I adore David Jason, the man is a complete legend #lorraine.”
“Anyone else feel overly emotional watching the wonderful Sir David Jason on #Lorraine,” wrote a fourth.
Lorraine airs on weekdays at 9am on ITV.
