Martin Lewis held his head in his hands as he listened to one This Morning caller on Thursday, as she outlined the scam she had fallen victim to.
Caller Beth, who works as an ICU nurse for the NHS, revealed she received a phone call from a person claiming to be her bank.
Swindled by the caller, Beth handed over her bank details, losing £8,000 in the process.
Reaching out to Martin for advice, Beth admitted the bank had claimed she was liable for the loss, and wouldn”t be able to repay the sum.
She said: “I”ve lost around £8,000 that the bank says I”m liable for and they can”t refund me.”
Martin looked horrified by the news, as he issued a desperate plea to viewers to hang up the phone on any potential scammers.
He explained: “This is a common scam right now, you may get a call from someone purporting to be a bank.”

Martin then claimed “we have an epidemic of scams” this year, as an increasing number of Brits hand over money unwittingly to dodgy schemes.
In some good news for Beth, however, Martin suggested all was not lost, saying: “Unless you have been grossly negligent or ignored what the bank’s told you, that you should get your money back.”
He urged the nurse to pen a letter to the financial ombudsman outlining the crime, and she hopefully would get some of her dosh back.
