Tipping Point fans rage at Ben Shephard as he accepts 'wrong answer' to question

Tipping Point viewers weren’t impressed by Ben Shephard ‘s generosity on Monday’s show, as he let a player get away with a questionable answer.

In the opening round of the competition, contestant Gina was hoping to make it through to the final, with £20,000 up for grabs.

Determined to land a counter to drop in the infamous drop zone, she slammed her hand on the buzzer as soon as Ben asked a question about an “alcoholic drink”.

He asked: “Which alcoholic spirit is added to lime, mint, sugar, and soda water to make a traditional mojito cocktail.”

Gina suggested “Bacardi” was the answer to the question – which is a brand known for its white rum, along with hundreds of other spirit labels.

However, the correct answer was simply “rum,” leaving Ben with a difficult decision to make.

After some deliberation, Ben decided to let Gina get away with it

Wrinkling his nose, Ben decided to let Gina get away with it, offering her the chance to give the slot machine a whirl.

He said: “I can accept Bacardi, yep. Or white rum.”

Gina made it through to the next round with £700 in the bank, increasing her odds of making it through to the grand final of the ITV competition.

Unfortunately, over on Twitter, certain viewers felt Ben had been unjust in giving her the answer, as they raged over the “branded” nature of her guess.

One said: “#tippingpoint The acceptance of Bacardi would cause outrage on a BBC quiz.”

Another claimed Bradley Walsh, who hosts rival show The Chase, wouldn’t accept such an answer under the pressure of the game.

They penned: “The funny thing is there are a lot of things Brad wouldn’t accept on #TheChase, and Bacardi as a type of alcoholic drink would be one of them! #Tippingpoint.”

“You shouldn’t have accepted Bacardi, Ben. We wanted a type of drink, not the f*****g brand! #TippingPoint,” a third added.

After a triumphant second round, Gina made it through to the semi-final, battling against fellow contestant Jesse in the hopes of making the jackpot.

A tense head-to-head ensued, and Gina was eventually crowned the champion, as Ben cheered: “You are today’s winner! Congratulations to you.”

Tipping Point airs on weekdays at 4pm on ITV.
