A Night of Solidarity Against Relationship Violence

Padma Lakshmi, Connie Britton, Gloria Steinem, Gabrielle Union, Julianne Moore, Ilana Glazer, Gloria Gaynor, Chanel Miller, Peter Sarsgaard and more will gather virtually on Wednesday for A Night of Solidarity, an event to support the movement against relationship violence. The evening will include stories, songs and conversations, all with the aim of deepening the understanding of domestic violence and offering solutions. The event — hosted by Tamron Hall, and produced by The Meteor in partnership with Refinery29 — will raise money for domestic-violence prevention through the Care Together for Her fund.

A Conversation with N.K. Jemisin

The science fiction and fantasy writer N.K. Jemisin — the only author to win the Hugo Award for best novel three years in a row, all for her “Broken Earth” trilogy — introduced the first book in her new “The Great Cities” trilogy in late March. The book, “The City We Became,” follows six characters as they come together to defend New York from annihilation. Jemisin will discuss the novel and how it resonates amid the current crisis with Whitney Hu, a Brooklyn-based housing and immigration activist. The event is presented by the Museum of the City of New York.

Bobby Cannavale and Allison Williams Perform
7:30 on YouTube
The actors Bobby Cannavale (“The Irishman,” “Boardwalk Empire”), Allison Williams (“Get Out,” “Girls”), Maulik Pancholy (“30 Rock”) and Emily Skeggs (“Fun Home”) will join Symphony Space’s long-running series Selected Shorts, in which actors bring works by well-known and emerging writers to life. Wednesday’s theme — best laid plans — is particularly resonant. The event will include works by Aimee Bender, Carmen Maria Machado, Simon Rich and Jess Walter. The evening is hosted by Pancholy.

In Performance Art, a Climate Change Tale

“Holoscenes,” a performance and installation piece by the artist Lars Jan that embodies humanity’s troubled relationship to water, will be streamed in its entirety (all four and a half hours of it) by New York University’s performing arts center in Abu Dhabi. Holoscenes is performed inside an aquarium-like sculpture with rising and lowering water levels to — as Jan put it to The New York Times in 2015 — make people “feel climate change in their guts, rather than just understand it.” The performance was filmed at N.Y.U. Abu Dhabi in its Middle East premiere in November 2016.
