Bake Off fans suspected a rivalry was brewing on this evening’s episode, as the Channel 4 series returned to our screens.
Matt Lucas joined the series as the new host, joining Noel Fielding in the tent as they welcomed a fresh batch of bakers to the competition.
However, viewers feared the presenters could be at war in the wardrobe department, as their jazzy shirts worked hard to outdo one another.
In recent seasons, Noel has captivated viewers with his eccentric shirts and jumpers, which feature psychedelic patterns and zany cartoons.
For his GBBO debut this evening, comedian Matt opted for a vibrant spotted shirt, complete with bright pink polka dots against a scarlet backdrop.

Noel’s shirt was arguably less noisy, patterned with a collage of muted browns and greys in a sophisticated button-up style.
Taking to Twitter, Great British Bake Off fans playfully suggested the duo could come to loggerheads over their competing wardrobes.
One said: “I like how #GBBO has turned into battle of the snazzy shirt.”

A second added: “Seems like Matt Lucas is gonna give Noel’s jazzy shirts a run for their money this year #GBBO.”
And a third chimed: “Noel & Matt’s shirts though…”
Earlier this year, Little Britain star Matt was recruited to replace former presenter Sandi Toksvig on the show for the 11th series of Bake Off.

Speaking about the strange way he landed the gig, Matt opened up about the job offer with Capital Radio host Roman Kemp back in April.
He said: “They were looking for a new host, and Noel had a dream that I was the co-host.
“And instead of saying to the producers, ‘I dreamt Matt Lucas was the co-host’, he just said, ‘Matt Lucas would be a good co-host I think’ and then I got an audition.
“I got a call on a Friday, I had the audition on the Tuesday and it was announced on the Thursday.”
The Great British Bake Off airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
