Coronation Street's Tina O'Brien 'replaced' amid new social distancing rules

Coronation Street star Tina O’Brien was replaced by a knicker factory dummy for the soap’s first socially-distanced stunt.

Her character Sarah Platt is chased down the street by killer ex-boyfriend Gary Windass and runs straight into the path of a car.

Gary (Mikey North) pushes her out of the way and saves her life. But he ends up on the car bonnet himself and has to be taken to hospital.

Mikey was not allowed to touch Tina during the dramatic scenes because of the current Covid-19 filming restrictions.

So a mannequin from the Underworld factory was used as her stand-in.

Tina said: “The mannequin was dressed the same as me with a wig. But she was a lot taller and slimmer so they chopped her feet off with a saw. And her head came off!”

Mikey admitted the dummy wasn’t as “good as the real thing” (Image: ITV)

She joked: “My husband said I should bring her home as she’d be a lot less aggro than me.”

Sarah, now wed to Adam Barlow, learns an engraved watch belonging to missing loan shark Rick Neelan has been found and susses that Gary killed him.

She spies his “murder kit” – a shovel, latex gloves and a bag – inside his van and threatens to call the police. Gary chases her down the street claiming he still loves her before the terrifying collision.

Mikey said: “I’ve never done a car stunt like this before. I loved it.

“But acting with a dummy version of Tina was not as good as the real thing.”
