Countdown legend Rachel Riley has been slammed after tweeting abut an “Arsenal fan in India”.
The TV starlet hit out online after one follower cruelly branded her a “plastic glory hunter” for supporting Manchester United FC.
The dig came from a man going by the name of Suprioyo Banerjee – who seemingly lives in Kolkata.
Mr Banerjee, who gushes over Arsenal FC in his Twitter bio, hit out: “No. Every Man Utd fan is like that plastic glory hunter.”
While she is from Essex, Rachel’s father is from Salford and also supported Manchester United.
Quote tweeting the dig, Rachel replied: “Says Arsenal fan in India,” before adding a string of laughing emojis.

Locking horns, Mr Banerjee raged: “Do you think being in India make me any less of a fan?
“I am ashamed of her. As Arsene once said ‘if you give success to stupid people, it makes them more stupid and not more intelligent.”
After she started to receive a backlash, Rachel clarified: “For the wilfully obtuse…
“It might be considered ironic, for someone supporting a club half way around the world, to call someone else a ‘plastic glory hunter’. End of.”

Hitting out, one follower said: “What’s him being in India got to do with anything? You can be in a different country and still be a real fan you know that?”
Meanwhile, TalkSPORT’s Phil Brown continued: “What’s so funny about this?
“Perhaps I’m being obtuse as you say in not recognising your right to insult someone about where they are from and what team they support.
“Is it just India and Arsenal you have an issue with or is it all foreign nationals who support English teams?”

He later claimed that while Rachel didn’t reply publicly she has now blocked him on the micro sharing site.
However, not everyone took offence.
TalkRADIO’s Julia Hartley-Brewer defended Rachel saying: “Stupid are claiming this is a racist tweet.
“It isn’t. It’s a joke and it’s not aimed at Indian people. Anyone who thinks it is racist is an idiot.
“Rachel don’t let the lunatics get you down.”
